Why won't my truck toast bread
 

Soooooo........power went out at my house and I had a hankering for some toast so I come up with the bright idea to bring the toaster out to my truck and make me some toast. Plugged it in and it worked for about one second then kicked off I tried repeatedly and it would never stay on for longer than 1 second......it says it's a 110 outlet like my house outlet.......any ideas?

Well... I like where your head is at here... but I bet the amperage of the load (the toaster) is just too great for what that outlet can produce. Heating elements draw a lot.

Yeah, I think the DC power converter is only rated for 400W. Check your manual.

Yep, the truck outlet is only good for around 3.5 amps - toasters can draw northward of 9-10.

Standard house circuits are 15 amps - 20 amps in most kitchens - which is why it works in the house and not in the truck.

I concur. Those resistive wire heaters can draw a lot of current. If you look on the bottom of your toaster or on the plug or tag there should be an input amperage. Your truck can only supply about 3-4 amps IIRC. That toaster is probably pulling 8-12A.

Over Christmas, my wife plugged in her crockpot to continue cooking whatever it was we brought, on the way to see family. I checked the sticker on the bottom of the device and it was within the specs. It worked surprisingly well but as mentioned that toaster may be pulling more current than the inverter is capable of generating.

OP, you must really love toast! As others have mentioned, too much power draw for the stock inverter. Even my wife's hair dryer will pull 1500 watts.
