I can see someone driving an old POS car with crappy heat that takes 30 minutes to warm up being a reason to warm your hands, but our trucks are warm within a couple minutes. I just don't get it.
the heated steering wheel is pretty amazing. Its a really nice feature even if it is not really cold out. We use it all the time. I bet if you tried it you would change your mind.

I agree with PatioBoater almost to a tee. His logic/justification was similar to mine in moving up to a Lariat 502A. And, I also agree with those above that really like the heated steering wheel. Like Adaptive CC, until you have it, you don't know how handy (yes - pun intended) of an option it is. And then you realize it's REALLY nice to have!

What if someone said they couldn't understand why anyone would want or need anything above an XL trim level.

Because I can't stand driving with a column shifter, and need the rear sliding "doggie" window.

Hang on to your hat.....pretty soon there will be a bunch of Ford Ranger guys saying they can't understand why anyone would want or need anything bigger than a Ranger!

Well, as I said above, I decided that I could do without it. But make no mistake, I would've been all about the heated steering wheel if I had found a truck with that without the cost jump to the full Lariat 502A package. Instead I wear gloves for a few minutes until the wheel warms up. It's hardly a hardship, since I spent much of my life driving a variety of POS cars while wearing heavy gloves and my truck is infinitely better than any of those. But, yeah, I have heated-steering-wheel envy.

What can I say? I've grown old and soft and I'm okay with that.

My wife's 2012 Range Rover came with a heated wheel. Thought that was just stupid, as I do not really use heated seats. First time I drove her Range rover it was 10 degrees out, loved that heated wheel. I like it way more than heated seats.

Got it because I wanted all the options, and I can afford it. If I could not afford it, I would drive what I could afford.

Rationalization is a powerful thing. The heated wheel is probably the only option I don't have on my XLT that I would like to have, even though I've never had a heated wheel on any vehicle before. It's always been cold every winter, and I haven't been inconvenienced yet by not having a heated steering wheel. I definitely wasn't willing to pay the cost to jump to a Lariat just to have it.

I've read the thread on this forum about adding the heated wheel. It's relatively easy to DIY, and I figure my cost would be about $400. Definitely doable. Still, I wasn't sure if I cared about it enough to actually go out and do it. I have plenty of other things to do.

Ultimately, I decided I didn't care. At Christmas, I took the $500 I might have spent doing it and donated it to the local homeless shelter. Now when I get in the truck on a cold morning and touch the steering wheel, I'm reminded that I might have cold hands for a few minutes, but somebody else has a full belly and shoes to wear. And in a few minutes, the steering wheel is warm. That works for me. YMMV.
