Why has no one invented this?
Why has no one invented a power rear view mirror so I can adjust it from where I sit and not from leaning into it? Also would be great because it would be integrated into the memory settings for quick recall if someone else drives. Seems like they would have this already I cannot imagine anything hard about a couple motors on it.

It was also in 1992-1999 Mercedes-Benz S class sedans coupes. The mirror adjustment **** had a center position that you used to adjust it and you could also save the position with the 3 available driver's seat memories. Made for a horrifically expensive mirror, even by today's standards with cameras and such.

The small area of the RV mirror requires the use of quality materials $$ and high torque motors $$. Compared to exterior mirrors where there is a ton of room for low load bearing plastic components and low power motors.
But probably the most difficult issue is owner perception. We are all used to mirrors that have largely the same aesthetic. I remember when auto dim RV mirrors first beame mainstream, they were a bit deeper and had a wider surrounding edge, and looked out of place. They aren't as bad today, but still feel out of place when you first purchase a vehicle with one. Mfg's go to great lengths to make certain things consistent in feel across all of their models due to the ability of perception to make or break a product.

I would love this in my truck. The current mirror is a perfect match for the height of the rear window. If I don't sit in the exact same spot every time this causes me to be adjusting the mirror to be level/square with the rear window and over correcting the adjustment in the process.

Does Nissan prevent other makers from using the design? Not sure how that works.
I do think with today's technology it would be a simple matter to put a few motors in them. Hell RC servo motors are very small and very high torque. The mirror looks to have plenty of room in it for the components. I think the key would be to make a mirror with motors that also could be manually moved without breaking it. I don't think it is a lack of tech that prevents this.

Electronic rear view mirrors are in the pipe right now. They will display an image from a rear camera. I suspect they will be electronically adjustable as it would much easier and more cost effective to have a movable camera.
