What's wrong with that? It's to avoid completely trashing the carpet so it looks somewhat half way decent in 10-15 years. Plus it's easier to clean up.

Because I got a loaded XL with more stuff than I need for less than 30 grand. I love my rubber floor!

Well first, I got the truck because it's a truck, not a luxury car. I got the XLT with almost every option because it was thousands cheaper than a Lariat to get things I didn't need.
For my XLT, with everything on it (including moonroof) it was the same price as a base Lariat. If I add the same things to the Lariat, it then costs 9k more than the XLT, but the only extra things it has is BLIS, side spotlights, leather seats and a Lariat badge (all things I don't want). So those few things for 9k extra is not worth it for me. Besides, I'm not a fan of all the extra gizmos and stuff that come on the higher trims, and judging by the amount of complaints about how these "convenience" features keep breaking or not working right, I'm glad I didn't go that route.
And no, it's not a money thing. I could have gotten a Platinum or a Limited if I wanted to, but the prices for the extra overpriced gizmos are outrageous for what they are. I'm very happy with my choice, it gets the job done of being a truck, and I only have 3 more months of payments left and she's paid off! I'm guessing I could have also paid off a Platinum in the same amount of time, but I would have probably paid it off in 3 years instead of 2.

Because I need a truck, and I don't need all the foo-foo stuff that comes on the upper trim levels...I have that stuff on my other cars. Only thing that I plan on adding are the Lariat visors and the carplay module. Have already torn out the rear sear of the Supercab so I can build a deck for my dog.

For me it was because the Lariat is stupidly more expensive than the XLT, and I wanted to spread out how much money I laid out up front. There's really no frustration in adding most of the additional bits either - the tailgate assist, leather interior, led headlights - they're all nice to have's but completely unnecessary.
