Mine ran me $220 or so, and that included labor, of course mine was just the unit, not the whole rear end, so, $469 doesn't sound too bad for all that.
The FX4, level 2, has a different spline than a regular Ranger, so if your drive shaft will bolt up you'd be good.
Mine has an 8.8 stock, it's an Edge package.
The only thing I did was make sure the clutch pack was good, if any doubt, replace them.
Here is a good site you may want to look at. There's some pretty knowledgeable guys there.

Mine runs like this year round. RWD, LSD, 4;10's
Mine is 2002 RWD 7.5" 3.73 open, 9" brakes. I have found a 2004 Fx4 lvl 2 8.8" 4.10 LS, 10" brakes. Currently in negotiations, LOL. I am trying to get the entire rear axle assembly and also the springs, ubolts and other fasteners (for spares if nothing else), shocks, maybe more. The particular junk warehouse wants ~$469.00 and I pick it up. Is that high ? It only has ~14000 miles on the truck. I can get another from a plain 2002 XLT for ~$250.00 but it has like 139000 miles. Whatcha think ? Any tips or tricks or anything else you would like to share from your experience. I think my son and I can swap it out in his shop. Never done anything like this before but my youngest brother is a retired Army mechanic and says it is a pretty straightforward type deal. I think that is his way of saying any old redneck with a little wrench turning experience can do it. This is all leading up to someday having a supercharged crate engine in it just because. Also plan to upgrade rear brakes to discs, get larger booster and master cylinder, replace lines. I love my Ranger !

Thanks. My Edge has 7.5", stock. A lot of peeps on all the Ranger forums assume all Edges have 8.8". I might should look at more non-Fx4 lvl 2 assemblies. I might join yet another Ranger forum … Thanks for the link.

MSRP for a fully loaded 4x4 XLT Screw is well over $50k. Sure, there are rebates and nobody pays MSRP on an F150 but they won't on a Ranger either (well, maybe they will for the first month or two) and by this time next year there will be rebates on the Ranger too.

I'll consider the raptor version once it comes out.

Ford needs to make it look less foreign! Make it a bit tougher looking. That front end looks hideous

Do you have the 3.0L engine? If so that's why IIRC all 4.0L Rangers had the 8.8" axle!!
