Who uses Auto Start / Stop?

I put mine in Sport mode and then hit the Shutoff button to reactivate the feature just so I can come on here and drive everyone that hates it mad. I swear to God, and this is the truth, pushing that button every time I get in the truck has not injured me in any way it's not even annoying. and sometimes I press the buttons to change the dimmer on my dash too. I'm a rebel, I know.
I don't mind it, I certainly don't need it. It does seem a little silly when it cuts out for a half second before I go from a stop sign where there is no traffic, but then when I'm in a drive thru line or at a light and i'm sitting there for 2 minutes, it's kind of nice having the engine off and I just take my foot off the brake when it's time to go.
I expect this tech to get more seamless in the future and these things have been around for quite some time already. I don't expect the horror stories of replacing starters and batteries to ever become a reality. It hasn't come true yet and there are plenty of cars on the road with this that are 5,6,7+ years old and haven't had the issue.
By way of comparison, my old Chrysler had 5 batteries i just just under 4 years. They could never figure out what was killing them and then it just stopped. So let's not act like cars haven't had battery and starter problems before.

You'd need one hell of a battery system to do stop/start on a diesel. Starting current on a diesel is substantially higher than a gas motor.

I'm still 6 weeks away from delivery of my truck, but can say that I will not disable it. A couple of the reasons I waited to get a 2018 model were the start/sop feature and the new front end which seems to be a love/hate for both. Oh, and the new Magma Red color

I really didn't like it at first. It took a while to get used to, but I don't even notice it now. It did change driving habits a bit. You start to anticipate your take-offs so you let off the brake enough to start the engine, but not move. Never has caused an oh-**** kind of moment. I can imagine if the system fails to restart in a busy intersection, yeah, could be a problem. But ANY car, with ANY engine could die and not restart. AS has been around for years, and I've never heard of any long term effects.
