I live in Manhattan and almost always drive in eco mode. When I am driving in heavy traffic, it seems that it starts and stops too often, so I just reach over and hit the switch. No big deal. When i am not in heavy traffic, I like it. Anything that will increase efficiency is fine with me. And I appreciate that I got a bigger battery and alternator with it.

As I was saying, uninformed.

Doesn’t bother me one bit. I have never switched it off.

Forscan is not model dependent, it is a software that lets you change features on your truck, with a computer connected to the OBD port.

No one has ever proved this by going 100% on or off either way, but physics is enough proof for me.

This. It also drove me crazy in city stop and go traffic. Move 5 feet, engine off, move another 5 feet, engine off...... After a month I permanently disabled it.

I have a 2010 Ford Hybrid, purchased in late 2009. The engine constantly starts and stops, much more than an F-150 since mine starts and stops while driving. Nearly 80,000 miles. Lots of local driving where it's starting and stopping multiple times in an hour.

My battery had to be replaced when I hit 8 years (car battery, not hybrid battery). And I've replaced the rear brakes. Also changed my oil, rotated my tires, and bought a new set of tires.

Default Auto stop/start on new Diesel?

I thought I'd dislike this technology, and that I would be finding a way to permanently disable it. It did take a little getting used to. I hardly notice it anymore, and almost never bother to turn it off. The only time I turn it off is when I know I'll only be stopping very briefly, as in bumper to bumper traffic.

When it does activate at a stop, releasing the brake pedal starts the engine before I can even move my foot to the accelerator. It's also very easy to just ease up on the brake pressure a couple seconds before you'll start moving again, and the engine is settled and idling when it's time to go. The vehicles using auto start/stop have heavy duty starters and batteries, and Ford's implementation strategy is very good.

This thread will no doubt spark another big debate about how ridiculous the feature is, along with lots of unsubstantiated conjecture about how it only saves pennies worth of fuel. But even if that was true, pennies add up; and across millions of vehicles, the fuel savings and reduction in emissions is substantial.

Honestly, I can find no reason to hate the AS/S system. It's never inconvenienced me in the slightest way.
Question: Ford says new 3.0 diesel will have auto stop/start standard. So no 'glow plug warm up lag time' at a traffic light or in stop/go traffic?

I drove a 2017 Fusion Hybrid recently and it blew me away. Driving down the road, watching the gauge, and the engine would just shutoff for miles. It was a very seamless system and I was very impressed. In my F150 however, I've disabled the AS/S.

I do not like it. Press the disable switch prior to the start switch. Look forward to the forscan solution.
