who is running 12 wides and how is fitment?

I just got my 2018 XLT crew cab a month ago and am planning my wheel an tire set up. I will be doing a 2.5 level most likely and want to run 12 wide wheels (-44 offset) and a 33x12.5 tire. Anybody else doing this? How is fitment?

I am not too fond of cutting out my rear crash bars. If running 10 wides (-24 offset) are the only way to avoid doing that, then that's most likely the route I will take.

If you have similar set ups please post! Pictures would be great too!

The only basis of comparison I have is a video I watched that had a 17 Platinum leveled ( I assume 2.5") and they were putting 305/55/20 with a Fuel 20x10 -12 wheel. The video says Fuel -19 but they are mistaken. It's a -12.

I have leveled a lot of 2015 thru 2018 F150s with 305/55R20 tires. Neither of those wheel options you posted is going to work without some type of serious modification or complete removal of the crash bars. Even with a 20x9 w/0 offset, you will still run into issues with interference with the crash bars.

Good luck with your endeavor.

I have actually watched this video lol. After watching most of their videos on the subject, it seems like they just hack off the bars before making any real attempts to get fitment. People in the gallery on there site are getting fitment without doing this.

I have been trying to do my research on the subject and there are a lot of similar trucks in the custom offests gallery. However, each one says different info about the fitment. I have seen some trucks with a 2.5 get away with only removing the front bars and a little plastic trimming, and they can fit 12 wides (-44). Others say they had to remove both front and rear bars to fit 10s (-24). Each with a similar tires set up to what i want to run. If i have to, I can go down to 285/45/22 in the terra grapplers, but I would like to stick with at least a 305 if possible.

The only for sure way of knowing is to try it but I don't trust the comments from the people in the gallery. I've seen pictures on there where they say "no modification" and "IT FITS!" and then in the pictures I can see the porta power they used to spread the bars or I can see that the front crash bar is missing. Some people go to get this work done and they don't even realize that the bars have been cut or you have people like the guy in the video calling it a "bumper support". There are also people out there that get 6" lifts and don't realize that their factory cross member has been cut out and modified with an aftermarket piece. Ignorance abounds. To each his own.

Based on my limited experience I am going to play it safe and tell you that a 12" wide wheel at -44 offset on a 33x12.5" tire and only 2.5" level is not only going to require front and rear crash bar removal, but probably some drip rail and inner fender modification. For your sake, I hope I'm wrong.

With that being said, I think there is something different between the 15' I had before and the 18' I have now. With the 15', I rubbed front crash bars after a level, 275/65/20s, and 1.5" BORA spacers on factory wheels. On this truck, I would rub the wheel well liner before I touched the front crash bar. Almost like the front crash bar is more forward on this truck.

I attached two pictures. One is my old truck with the aforementioned specs. The second picture is my current truck (specs are in signature). I know it's a slightly different angle but to me it seems like in the newer trucks have more room.

Thanks man! I appreciate your input, and the pics help!

I agree that a lot of the trucks in the gallery seem too far fetched. Nobody really posts what they actually had to do to get fitment on there.

When you get those Fuel Warriors post some pics! I like that wheel a lot and its on my list of possibilities.

Will do. I ordered them on June 10th, two days after I bought the truck. According to the Fuel rep they weren't even in the states yet. Then two weeks later they were on a boat. According to Stage3, they arrived in LA on July 10th and they should be here within a week of that day. We'll see. Part of the problem is they were originally parted as the D603 and apparently they had some mix up or mess up with the caps and rebranded it the D623. I think they discontinued the D603s and thats why there is a shortage. I'm only speculating.

I spent a lot of time on that custom offset gallery figuring out what type of stance I wanted on my truck. Somewhat aggressive with limited modification and not too big of a hit to fuel mileage so 3-6" lift was out as well as 35" tires. I've seen a few with 305/55/20 with a +1 or +0 and a level (2-2.5") and I believe all of them said they required no cutting/spreading other than one who said he had to trim his factory mudflap. I don't have them so I think I'll be safe.

I hope your set-up works out for you because I think it will look good. I'd just hate for you to have to return wheels/tires because it's such a hassle- or make modifications that you're not comfortable making.

I'll have a look at custom offsets and see what they're saying. I know some of the information in the F250 realm is flat out false - I learned the hard way when I was running a SD.

Edit: Looked at a few with 22" wheels, 12 wide running 305/45/22 and -44. All of them said major metal cutting and one of them said front and rear crash bars removed with plastic trimming as well. That sounds like an honest assessment and if that person had to do it, I don't know how others are getting away with not doing it. People rarely trim more than they have to.

Ya the -44 offset wheels I know are a stretch and basically unrealistic if I don't want to worry about the slightest bump, but I have seen our trucks with them and wanted to get some more details on how those people got fitment. I am not too concerned about removing my front crash bars or spreading them a little if I have to, but I'd like to at least keep the rears. In the grand scheme of things if dealers are selling lifted trucks with them both already cut out, it can't be too much of a safety issue once the ride height/wheel offset is changed.

BoozeDaily 07-14-2018 08:44 PM

I figured any tire bigger than 4x4 stock and any rim wider than 9 with a negative offset will require at least some spreading, crash bar swapping (pass to driver, vice versa) or complete removal (On a 2.5" or less lift). Basically more than I am willing to do.

I'm no engineer so I can't speak intelligently regarding the crash bars. With both in place, that is a ****load of steel that has to give way/bend before the front of your truck ends up in the cab of your truck. Engine is already designed to drop down. Looking at pictures of the SCrew crash test with them and the SCab without them (2015) it made a big difference. I'm not going to get on a soapbox and tell you what to do with your truck. You're aware of what they are and what they are supposed to do.

Amongst other things, I cut people out of cars for a living for a large city. I've never been in a situation where I've said "if only they had crash bars they would have survived". Majority of accidents your seatbelt and airbags are plenty. In a bad enough accident where the seatbelt and airbags are not enough, there usually isn't much else that would have made a difference aside from that foam **** they used in Demolition Man.

I'm only keeping mine because the look I prefer doesn't require me cutting them. At the end of the day it's only 30 seconds with a Sawzall and a steady hand with a flapper wheel separating you from what you want and a compromise.
