I know they said they cleaned it up, but I would be worried about oil getting into someplace it shouldn't be and jacking something else up.

Also, was there no service engine warning light to indicate something wrong?

Gonna go check my fluid levels right now.

No warnings or lights. I just wanted to look at the engine and that's what I found

Ugh, messy. Depending how far you drove it...and if you plan to keep it long term have them give you their cost or 50% off on an extended warranty? If you just made it around the block, no big deal, just ask for a free oil change & car wash on the next service.

I highly doubt your motor experienced anything detrimental for driving it 1 hour with the fill cap off. (Even if you drove it 3 hours). You lost very little oil - you would actually have to lose quite a bit before any damage would occur. All you got was a mess in the engine compartment and a little inconvenience. The dealership handled it just fine. A free oil change for your inconvenience is adequate. Demanding extra warranty is silly.

It would be great if everyone was as perfect as they expect everyone else to be! (Not pointing this comment at the op - just putting it out there)

I know I couldn't let it go NO WAY. Yes, it could happen, and does happen but not on a vehicle I own. BFD that they topped off the oil. The dumb asses wouldn't have had to do that if they would have taken the time to make sure everything is there and secured. There is no excuse for that period. If it was an oil change job you paid for I would demand they give you several for free.

If they forgot to tighten the cap to the bloodline of the truck, what else might they not be checking or tightening. Those lapse minded A-holes!

In the words of the great George Strait: "Let it go, sometimes you gotta let it go, let it all wash on under the bridge, blow it a kiss, give it a rest ‘cause it is what it is"

I just don't know how long it's been like that. Has it been sitting on the lot with the cap off the entire time? I don't know. Has it been like that after I started to drive it? I don't know. I'm going to have them change the oil and filter for my peace of mind and hopefully we'll be able to call it good
