What rear differential we have.
Just letting everyone know. That if you own a 2015 or newer 5.0 F150 that the rear differential we have is called a Super 8.8 12 bolt.

This was discussed recently in another post as well and Magnetic157 posted a pic of both diffs.

tl;dr 8.8 is round-ish, 9.75 is more pointed on the bottom and top.

My '16 RCSB had a 8.8 with 3.73 eloc, picked up a '17 Screw and it is equipped with the 9.75/3.73 eloc. The new truck has the HD tow package. I did notice while looking for a new truck that everything with the 8.8 had the pushbutton parking brake while 9.75's had a foot operated parking brake. This may just be a fluke but I did look at a lot of trucks over 2 months and they were all like that.

3.5 Egoboost, 3:55 LSD, 10speed, SCab, non HDPP, TT, I've got a 9.75.
Could be the 3.5 get's the heavier axle due to torque requirements, I thought the 5.0 came with it as well.
Crap, I've got the 8.8, 28 spline in my little 3.0 Ranger!!!!!

The 8.8" rear axle in the 2015+ F150s is not the same axle as that in your Ranger so don't compare them to each other. The 8.8" axle in the 2015+ F150s is a very robust product. I've yet to see one fail even with forced induction or 37" tires.

Just FYI, The 8.8 HD that is in the rear is not the same as the normal 8.8 (it's not even the same as the 8.8 in the front of the same truck, or other 8.8 vehicles). The rear 8.8 HD is pretty much a hybrid of the 8.8 and the 9.75, with many of the heavier duty internals of the 9.75. Trust me, I learned the hard way... when I went to put 4.88 gears in my truck, they fit the front (regular 8.8) just fine but not the rear 8.8 HD. The 8.8 HD is a completely different differential.
