Sync3 plays them just fine, but you don't get that many of these files on a reliable 'thumb drive'. It's nice to have easy options like CD.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a CD player in my '16 when I bought it. But I haven't used it yet, and I'm not sure I ever will.
A 2Gb/album, a 32 GB drive would hold almost 16 lossless HD albums. If I were going this route, I'd have a few thumb drives. However, unless you've upgraded the audio system in the truck, your source material is probably way better than the system can reproduce.

I rip all my CDs to FLAC (free lossless audio codec) most albums are less than 300mb and they sound sound great on my pioneer elite receiver and Polk towers. If i rip to wave files then the files sizes are 2gb+
FLAC plays on our trucks and you can easily hear the difference in quality over mp3 files.

Along these same lines - BEWARE - navigation is a STANDALONE OPTION for 2019. I had to adjust my 2019 order to make sure I got it. I know smart phone has waze but where I go there is no cell service a lot of the time.

.

Google maps let's you download offline maps.
I have used them several times and works perfect. I always download the maps for any vacation or weekend road trips and make sure I download well beyond the area I expect to be in.
This old goat likes his tech.

Edit: added benefit is you will always have the latest maps

I never used the CD player in my 10 year old Acura and definitely not in my truck. Every CD I've had has been downloaded to iTunes and Google Music and transferred to my Phone. And now downloading music is old school when you have streaming services that can paly whatever you want.

I didn't even know it had a CD player when I bought my 2016. I used the cd in my 06 silverado a few times maybe - I installed a HD radio in it. My wife has used it in her 2010 edge since it can't do usb drives I would burn MP3 cds for her.
I use Amazon and Pandora in my truck if im not using a usb drive full of FLAC music files.

Do you own a computer? I'm guessing you do though lots of people just use their phones these days. if you have a Windows PC then get the free VLC music player. It can rip your CDs to FLAC if you want to keep the quality or to MP3 if you have limited space, I recommend 256bit or higher. If you have a Mac I'm sure someone will chime in for the best app. once you have your new files just drag to a usb drive. Bigger the drive the more albums
Google is your friend

Free Lossless Audio Codec - it is an audio file like MP3 except it does not loose quality like MP3 files do. If you "rip" a CD to FLAC files then you end up with CD quality sound. Our sync3 F150s can play these files using a USB thumb drive. You can get free music players that can copy "rip" your cds into .flac files.
I arrange my music into folders by album for easy visual sorting. But I usually just use voice to play what I want.

So I could do this on my home computer?
