In this case, OEM all the way. VERY nice looking truck, rims and all. Normally, I'd replace the OEM's, but these are perfect for the truck as it sits.

You are not even close to accurate. She has zero worries. She's most likely infringed on nothing (I'm not going to read the patent, but I'm sure there are enough differences....and even so, who's going to spend $10K suing her for $200 of her enjoyment of utility) and putting a Ford sticker on something homemade for personal use doesn't both Big Brother.

That was a great job making the switch plate. I like it so much that I might do something similar. I was trying to come up with a good solution for adding aux switches...but don't want to use the ones in the overhead console due to needing to activate them quickly. I really like that location since I normally have my hand resting on the shifter or center console.

My modification:
I did run my phone charging cables through the console this weekend. Now, I have them popping out at the center console side pockets so I can keep the cubby door closed. It really cleans it up!

Great Thanks for your input. Now we can all move on, right. Big brother doesn't care, there is likely no patent for Canada and nobody in the USA sues anybody anymore. GOT IT !!! Forget that I was simply trying to be helpful. She, or anyone else can do whatever they want. That's what democracy is right.really like the idea of putting the USB cords out the side. Wish the 16s had them over there too.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around what he is claiming is new and novel about a plastic insert for a trim piece to hold switches. People can get patent pending status for just about anything. It basically means the patent office hasn't made a ruling one way or another. I would be shocked to see a patent granted for that, unless there's a whole lot more to what's going on than what is visually obvious.

I'm not trying to belabor the point or argue that you're incorrect, I'm actually quite curious as to what intellectual property he is trying to claim.

Default Light switch bracket

Well l am not sure where to go from here. I guess thanks for all the input into my home made/back yard light switch. I am not nor was l going to make or sell this cover. I was just proud of what l had accomplished on my own when adding to my truck. I do hope that l have not offended or stepped on any ones toes, l just wanted to show what mods l have done to my 16. As for BIG BROTHER, l just had my truck serviced and the owner of my dealership approached me to say he really liked all the upgrades that l have done to the truck. He even commented on the switch plate and thought the emblem was a nice touch. So l do hope that all is good. I do appreciate everyone's input and like this forum.

Has anyone bothered to Google automotive switches?

Switch panels are a dime a dozen. All shapes and sizes. If I purchase a piece of plastic and cut it to size for my vehicle, it is not a copyright infringement. If I purchase a switch panel and deconstruct it and makes duplicates of the panel and sell them on ebay, that's an issue. But only if the copy is an exact duplicate of the original.

If I buy an item with the Ford emblem on it, I now own that emblem and I can put that emblem on anything I want.

As long as I do not make copies of said emblem, and sell those emblems it is not copyright infringement.

People have been adding switches in the strangest places + the practical ones as well for decades.

Add center console to the google search!

Where to go from here? Out to your truck to enjoy the good work you've done. Nothing else you need to do.
