Hmmm. No mention of SCabs in the article, just RC and SCrew.

it’s most likely because of the difference in setup with the seatbelt tensioner in them compared to the others.

  • Recall Date: AUG 31, 2018
  • Recall Title: CARPET SHIELDING AND INSULATION REWORK
Show less
  • NHTSA Recall Number: 18V568
  • Ford Recall Number: 18S27
  • Recall Description: CARPET SHIELDING AND INSULATION REWORK. FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER DEPLOYMENT DURING A CRASH EVENT CAN RESULT IN EXCESSIVE SPARKS GENERATED BY SUSPECT PRETENSIONING DEVICES. IN SOME CASES, THIS COULD RESULT IN THE IGNITION OF MATERIAL IN THE B PILLAR AREA, INCLUDING CARPET AND INSULATION. SOME REPORTS INDICATE MELTING, SMOKE OR FIRE THAT SELF EXTINGUISHED OR WAS LOCALIZED, OTHERS THAT PROPAGATED. AS OF AUGUST 24, 2018, FORD IS AWARE OF 17 REPORTS IN THE U.S. OF SMOKE OR FIRE RELATED TO THIS CONDITION. FORD IS NOT AWARE OF ANY REPORTS OF ACCIDENT OR INJURY RELATED TO THIS CONDITION. THERE ARE 2 COMPONENT MANUFACTURERS AFFECTED JOYSON (PREVIOUSLY TAKATA) FOR 2015 TO 17 MODEL YEARS, AND ZF FOR 2018 TO 19 MODEL YEARS.
  • Risk to Safety: A FIRE IN THE B-PILLAR AREA FOLLOWING DEPLOYMENT OF THE FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS MAY PROPAGATE WITHIN THE VEHICLE AND MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY.
  • Remedy Program: OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE INSULATION MATERIAL REMOVED FROM THE B PILLAR TRIM, MODIFY THE BACK INTERIOR PANEL FOR REGULAR CAB ONLY, REMOVE REMNANTS OF WIRING HARNESS TAPE IN THE B PILLAR AREA, AND APPLY HEAT RESISTANT TAPE TO THE CARPET AND ITS INSULATION. THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE.
  • Status: 11 - RECALL INCOMPLETE
  • Manufacturer Notes: TO CHECK FOR NON-SAFETY-RELATED PROGRAMS APPLICABLE TO YOUR VEHICLE, SEE HTTP://WWW.FORD.COM/ OR CALL YOUR FORD DEALER.

Title should be "what CAN happen". Not all F-150's blow up in flames when they get T-boned...

Ford will just remove the foam, that way no combustibles near the retractor/pretensioner.
That's EXACTLY what the recall is, and adding heat resistant tape to the carpet.

Dear Ford... So, why was the insulation there to begin with? Oh yeah, it’s noise dampening insulation. Guess we don’t need that anymore. How about fixing the pretensioner so it doesn’t throw out sparks in the first place???

Dealerships (at least mine) moving quickly on this one. Within an hour of the recall announcement going out they called me to set an appt next week for the fix. 4 days into my first F150... haha.
