What is the going price for a 6R80 trans fluid and filter change?

All,

I have a 2015 3.5L XLT Ecoboost with a little over 73,000 miles on it. I've got a big tow coming up in a month and thought I would have the trans fluid and filter changed out. I've called two local shops and so far one was $980 and the other was $1030. I had one heart attach and one stroke after hearing those prices. I've been trying to get a hold of the dealership service dept but so far they have been elusive. Are trans fluid and filter changes now that much? Neither of them were using machines, just drop the pan, change filter and fill with new fluid.

If you've had this service done, would you mind if I asked how much you paid?

I do my own oil changes but looking at the trans pan, I can see that it would be a big mess to try and do it with what I have to drain it into. Anyone do this easily and practically mess free? If so, what tools were you using?

Thanks!

I paid a guy I know $60 (he only asked for $40) to replace the filter and exchange 8 quarts of fluid. That’s obviously not all the fluid, but I plan to do that every 30k.

I bought the fluid and filter.

a few months back a local shop quoted me somewhere between 500-600. Their rates are usually in-line with the dealerships.

500 for the 6r80 is ridiculous. that is a very simple transmission to service.

I just had my 2017 6R80 with 80k serviced at Certified Transmission and it was $260 out the door. Fluid, filter and road test. I was happy with that.

my thoughts as well... a smaller shop quoted me like 250 but they didn't do a great job on the last vehicle our company sent them. I think I'm just gonna do it myself

Do it yourself but replace with a new drain pan that has a built in drain plug. Allows you to do fluid changes in between fluid/filter changes.

One time PITA but then a game changer.

Use this first to get most of the fluid from the pan before you drop it. No mess no fuss

I have another thread where we're talking about this - the Dorman pan is hit or miss - gotta order it then water check it for leaks due to QC issues with the drain plug bung and their crush washers are crap. The other option I see is a $500 B&M high capacity fan so that's out.

hmmm, wonder if I could do the same using some tubing and one of those drill powered fluid pumps

I paid about $150 at an independent shop I have frequented for some years now back in December.
