Default What is the fascination with a level truck?

Serious question - Other than cosmetic - Are there functional benefits?

thanks from an inquiring mind

I've always wondered about lifting, especially those who go extreme. Raises the center of gravity, making it easier for the vehicle to roll over. Also if you want to load the box, you get to lift everything higher. Plus possible damage to drive shaft(s) due to change in angles in drivetrain.

Also wonder if a lifted truck is in an accident and rear ends a car, how do the insurance companies and lawyers like the additional damage and possible injuries to passengers in car caused by truck hitting higher, softer trunk/rear hatch. Have seen one accident where a 6 inch lifted truck sheared through tailgate and killed both rear seat passengers (I was volunteer firefighter and responded to that wreck. The lifted truck driver told cop he "didn't know his truck could go over a car". Was charged with manslaughter and serving 15 years plus lost multimillion $$ civil suit from family of victims.)

Situation is worse with those who use those massive tires. Dumbest and most dangerous thing I've seen is someone needing a ladder to get into their truck.

Not saying you cannot lift but most people I've spoken to (extreme lifts), they do it "because it looks cool" and will honestly admit they never worry about anyone else - "I'll never be in ( or had) an accident".

Cosmetic, just like many other mods. Tint, wheels, tires, decals, PTM parts, etc

Also to fit a larger tire. But beware, some people report a decline in ride quality with a level.

You're also able to fit a larger tire without rubbing.

You get the look of a lifted (or lowered) truck while only having to mess with one end.

Yup. Mine is new, but plan to level kit it. Looks like a slightly lifted truck without much cost, get a little more ground clearance, and fit bigger tires without rubbing. I don't consider it just for looks.

Fit bigger tires for more clearance.

They look awesome thats for sure. I was happy with a stock truck when I bought it but every time i see one leveled with a little bit bigger tire it makes me wanna do it. I just can't justify the money when I've got brand new tires and leveling theoretically decreases mpg.

Also if you level your truck adjust your head lights.... nobody likes getting blinded by some jackwagon that leveled or lifted his truck.

I had been wondering the same thing.
There is a measured difference between the center hub & fender, front / back, but the truck looks " level " to my eye.

I'd never have known mine's not level if not for these forums. Maybe it's because there's hardly any place here to park that's level enough to compare anything to.
