Default What exactly is happening in Sport mode?

Sport mode is just awesome. Curious what exactly is happening to make such a dramatic different in how the truck performs. I figured it would just force the truck to stay in lower gears but when I watch the gear indicator as I switch from Normal to Sport, sometimes the gear indicator doesn't change but the truck instantly feels more responsive.

I wish you could force it to stay in Sport mode full-time...

Along with gear "holding" when lifting off the throttle in anticipation of corner approach, I'm guessing also that the throttle curve* is changed, the torque converter clutch locks sooner than it does in Default** and of course just as in Tow/Haul the PCM will actuate the throttle to "rev-match" for the next lowest gear when downshifting.

*(there is no more mechanical connection between our foot and the engine throttle body; it is now an electric signal processed by the truck's Powertrain Control Module)

**(every time we start the truck, all optional shift maps are deactivated until we select them)

So far it's only speculation on more than one forum. It would be nice if Ford would be more specific in its sales brochure.

Either way, it's good enough that I'm not considering a tuner for this truck.

Throttle sensitivity is changed. For example, let's just say when you push the throttle down 1/4 of the way, it opens the throttle body 1/4 of the way. Engage sport mode, push the throttle down 1/4 of the way, now the throttle body opens 1/2 the way, giving you the sensation of more power. It's just quicker power, not more power.

FWIW...................We do a mountain run about every six weeks or so. One super curvy section has about 15 minutes of switchbacks and instant elevation demands. All below 45 mph.

It's a thrill to put the 5.0 in sport mode. The performance and sound is exhilarating. I believe it's more transmission control than throttle control. In the 5.0 sport mode keeps her near red-line throughout the trek.

Gotta say I can't really tell much difference with my 2.7 between regular and sport.

I see what you've done here, but I interpret it differently through my foot.

It feels like normal mode gives you 4 options. 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and holy s***

And sport mode gives me 1/16,1/8,3/16... all the way to holy s***!

It does feel like my foot is directly and seamlessly connected to the TB in sport mode.
