It happens all the the time. I work at a dealer and people constantly buy cars during service appointments. They wander around see something shiny and new and take it home. Money has nothing to do with it. Lots of them are underwater on a few year old car about to or just went out of warranty. They can get in a new car for the same monthly payment and put no thought at all into actual cost.

I'm the opposite. I saved for 2 years, read everything there was to read about the new F150, factory ordered mine and paid cash.

I did the same thing in 2011. I took my 2010 by the dealership to price tires since the service guy told me he would match anyone else price and the salesman who sold me my 2010 said I should trade since they had about 7500 in rebates plus 0 interest for 72 months. I went in with a year old $42k truck with 25k miles with 3.9% and left with a $50K truck and my payments hardly changed.

It's like going to Walmart for cat food and coming home with a new 70" LED LCD television...on a little bit bigger scale. Some people are just more spontaneous than others. It's not really that big of a deal.

Now get up off the floor.

P.S. OP, your truck is really nice! Congratulations!

I don't get it, either. I usually take 12-18 months to pick out a vehicle after deciding that I need something new.

Without speculating on the OP's situation, I doubt that this describes most spontaneous auto buyers. I figure that most of the reason that I could afford to wander in and buy a car whenever I wanted is precisely because I don't do that. My friends in the car business have suggested that most people that buy a car on the spot are more of the 'I'll sign whatever I need to in order to drive away in this vehicle' people.

I had a 2009 Lariat and went to the dealer to see about getting power folding mirrors. Came home with a 13 Platinum. Went to the dealer for an oil change for the 13 and came home with a 15 Platinum. My wife would like me to stop going to the dealer

To the OP. Very nice looking truck. Enjoy your new ride.

Ah yes, another F-150Forum.com Financial Services consultant.

You know what floors me? The amount of people on this forum that are so concerned with how everyone spends their money.

OP, enjoy your new truck. Love that Tuxedo Black.

OBAMA.

There, now everyone can argue about that instead of whether or not this guy should have bought a truck when he went on for an oil change.

You're welcome world.

Doesn't floor me. I've done it 3 or 4 times on the spur of the moment.

Good for you - beautiful truck!
