I'm not sure what kind of dealerships you all are used to but I buy a new truck/car every year or two, and have had several issues paint wise and defect wise from all different manufacturers and all the dealers i have dealt with bend over backwards to make me happy, they want my ongoing business, so repairs i have had done are top notch.

I agree. Just because he took his truck to a **** shop doesn't mean they are all terrible. This is a huge problem with any service these days. One person has an issue and tries to generalize every thing into that one bad experience. That's why I hate Facebook.
I had a great experience with my dealership and salesman, had a great experience with the shop as well. They sprayed my bed-liner and wheel wells with Line-X or something like it, not a speck of overspray anywhere but one tire, and that **** is nasty.

The sad thing is any paint repair that I have ever had done over the years, and I have been driving since 1966, has always left overspray so I guess I just have the worst luck or have never had work done by a shop that leaves no overspray.

My suggestion to the op is if you loved everything about the truck except that one spot, just don't accept the truck until it is repaired to your liking, and have them warranty the work for the lifetime you have the truck. It's disappointing to see at first but once it's fixed you'll be happy as a pig in ****

My current truck got hit with hail (baseball size, worst area ever has seen!) about 3 months after I got it. I was sick. Spent a couple weeks in the body shop. New hood, fenders, box, fix roof, one new door skin. New glass etc..... I was worried until I picked it up. The paint was better than factory. For sure, the clear coat was much smoother. I guess I was lucky. Its been nearly 9 years and I just got back from the car wash. My grey truck was looking tan!. It still looks nice. So I am more than happy with the after market paint job.
If the body shop is good, I would have no problem having them fix a small blemish like that.
What is going to happen if you get a small paint chip or door ding? Are you going to send it back to the factory for repair?

I gotta say this-I dont understand all the people on this thread freaking out about "QC SHOULD BE BETTER!!!!". This is a manufactured product-every single truck made and delivered has flaws-I promise you. Stating that Ford should have better QC is just nonsense.

I'm not overly picky about minor blemishes but this type of imperfection becomes a rust concern, especially where I live, so I would've done the same. I don't trust cheap aftermarket paint jobs as they fade and peel in very little time. On a brand new truck I want OEM paint baked on as it should be.
Rust concern on an aluminum body?
