Well, I go to pick up my 2018 5.0l tomorrow after sealer replaced the engine...
I was burning oil and Ford decided to replace my engine. I hope a major repair like this doesn’t cause 15 additional problems. I also hope all my forscan settings haven’t been reset. I hope it is an undetectable repair, but I have a VERY BAD feeling as major repairs never go well. Once the cherry is popped, a vehicle is never the same.

Just be sure to keep an eye on your replacement to see if you got a good one.
I did wind up with a few issues after my engine replacements, but it could have just been my truck. One thing to note is they usually reset your transmission module after the replacement. So if you feel like it is shifting odd/hunting a lot, give it some miles to learn your driving style again. It doesn't necessarily mean there is an issue. Good luck! |
Thanks guy for the reassurance.

Let us know how things are once you have your truck back please.

I have a 2015 with a 2.7 ecoboost engine so the burning oil issue is not a problem for me. However, has Ford ever said what the problem is with the newer 5.0 V8 engines and oil consumption?

From some ford guys I’ve talked to all the new 5.0s will consume oil during break in. The use of low friction rings and the new hard low friction plasma liners make a more prolonged break-in process. The rings cannot physically seat as quickly from what I’ve been told. I’m sure many have had legitimate concerns but many say it goes away with miles.
the rattles are common on 3.5 and 5.0 engines and many claim it’s the VCT’s “cleaning”. |
The only problem with a V8 engine swap is Ford hasn't done anything about them (2018-19), not even officially acknowledging the issue. So you may very well get another crappy engine. And no, a different break-in is not going to solve a bad engine problem. Good luck with the new one.
