wanting 9.75 rear end

Hello,
I haven't been able to find this answer definitively. Can someone tell me how to ensure that I will get a 9.75 rear end with a 5.0l in a Supercab XLT? I intent to order a 3.73, but don't know if simply ordering a 3.73 ensures a that it will be a 9.75. I haven't been able to find a counter example, (i.e. a 3.73 ratio 8.8 inch). If all 3.73's are 9.75 then I am safe, but I also wonder if is it possible to get a 3.55 in a 9.75. If so, how?

Thanks in advance,

The only way to get that is to get the 3.5 ecoboost. All 3.5 ecoboosts have 9.75" rear ends.

In 2016 getting 3.73 gears with 5L gave you the 9.75" axle, I'm guessing it's still the same now. I believe the only way to get a 9.75" 3.55 ratio is to get a 3.5L Ecoboost.

i also think the FX4 package gets the 9.75

It didn't in 2015.

The 8.8 is pretty stout. Cannot remember hearing of any issues at all.

If you are looking at the trucks, the 9.75 will have a mechanical emergency brake. The Super 8.8 will have the electric parking brake. Ordering from Ford... they have changed several things around since I bought my 2016 so your guess is as good as mine.

we have seen a couple here at the dealership. including my personal truck. Axle left the factory with no pinion preload

I own a late 2018 XLT 302A Supercab with the 5.0, FX4, tow package, trailer brake and backup assist, 36 gallon tank, etc, and it's got the 8.8 with 3.55 gears. The only '18 and '19 trucks I've seen with the 9.75 are the 3.5 Ecoboost, and then they all seem to have the bigger axle. That being said, the super 8.8 is no slouch, and I've never heard of a problem with them, unless you're going with super big lift and tires or something. Your front end is likely your weak point in that scenario still anyway. If you must have the 9.75 anyway, you should be able to request the 3.73 gears and get it that way, but just the FX4 alone or tow package does not get it for you. I'd order the truck through a dealer, and make them track that detail down before confirming though.

Not all 8.8 are electric. My 16 Platinum is mechanical.
