Default Vinyl Wrapped Bumper

Ive never been a huge fan of chrome, so I figured I would try my hand at vinyl wrapping.I would have preferred to go the paint route but the out of pocket was more than I was willing to spend $250/each for PTM bumper panels and another $200 for paint (at that rate I would just go full after market bumper). The vinyl route was $50 vinyl and a couple of hours of labor (frustration and cursing included).

Cheers!

Looks awesome! Was that your first time installing vinyl wrap? Did you do the front bumper? I've been thinking about doing the same thing on the back bumper and doing the sides of the front bumper to look like a Platinum bumper.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Post some pics if you get around to it.

Where did you pick up the vinyl?

That looks really good.

Looks really good. Would love to do this too if I can find a perfect match for the magnetic color.

Care to list the steps you took?

You can buy the vinyl from here: http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-1080-Scotchprint-Gloss-Black-Metallic-Vinyl-p/gloss1080g212.htm
I've read that this color is almost an exact match for my Tuxedo black paint. A 5' x 2' roll is only $20 with free shipping. I would think this would be more than enough to do the back bumper and the both sides of the front bumper with some to spare in case you make a mistake.
I've never done vinyl wrap but I can tint windows half decent......so I would "think" I should be able to do some small wrap sections. For $20 it's worth a shot! I got a quote for $500 to have them wrapped professionally! Sure worth $20 to try it myself!

Had the ends of my Lariat front bumper done. Couldn't be happier, and cheaper than the OEM Platinum/Limited bumper!

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

First I have to mention that it took me a few "practice" runs to get it right. In effort to save you from the frustrations I encountered here are a few things I learned:

-Practice run 1: DONT use a heat gun I got about 95% complete and used a heat gun to stretch out the last corner and burned a hole in the wrap, use a hair dryer instead (dont tell my wife)

-Practice run 2: trim LESS than you think you need to cut then when you are 99.9% completer then do the finishing trim, it will give you enough material to hold on to for pulling and smoothing

-Practice run 3: CLEAN the piece youre wrapping then clean it again, use your hand to feel for imperfections even the smallest of pieces will show through

-Corners are a PAIN: smooth, pull, stretch, repeat...patience is a virtue

-For those with sensors take the core out first then the housing

Happy Wrapping and Best of Luck!

Cheers!
