Default Using Ramps OK for Oil Change?

My 2.7 EB is approaching 3000 miles and I want to change the oil myself on this truck. Just concerned that putting it up on ramps will throw off the oil level and not drain properly. How else without a lift can you do this yourself?

The drain is at the back of the oil pan, as it is on every car. Ramps are fine. Throw off what level? You refill by quantity, not level.

Thanks. For some strange reason I thought the oil drain was at the front of the pan. That was the level I was concerned about.

I like to leave out a quart, then take it off the ramps, and let it set level, then add the rest and check it.

I use ramps so it's easier to get a 5 gallon bucket under there. Because of the drain plug design on the 2.7L the oil comes out fast!

Yes. it comes out of the 2.7 like a hose when you pull the plug! Better have the pan in the right place or you'll have a big mess.

I’m thinking also that changing the filter will be tricky while the oil is draining high up on those ramps. I may not be able to reach it. I’ve changed oil in many vehicles over the years but this truck is a new experience for me. Any tips?

Ha ! Tell me about it. The 1st time I changed the oil in my 6.7 PSD I didn't adequately predict the trajectory of the oil. It has that same big 1/4 turn plug with about 3 gallons of oil behind it. It was a vocabulary expanding experience.
