Used F-150 with 39 miles
I am very heavy into the search for a new truck and I stumbled across a used one randomly that strikes me as a red flag, but I want to get everyone's opinion on it.
It's a 2016 XLT Sport Supercrew, white, 302a, locking diff, pro trailer backup, 2wd, 2.7. Mileage is at 39, yes only 39 miles, according to the photo of the dash and what is listed on the ad.
The carfax shows:
7/12/16: Michigan Motor Vehicle Dept. Dearborn Heights, MI Title #804E1930005 - Title issued or updated First owner reported
12/7/16: Auto Auction Florida - Listed as a manufacturer vehicle. Vehicle sold at auction
What does this mean? Was this a damaged vehicle from the factory that they sold to the auction or something of the sort? Carfax shows everything clean.
Thank you for any help.

Maybe repo'd? after only a day or 2? idk. Definitely suspicious, but could be a great deal on a basically new truck. Does it have a 1-owner, used, price?

I purchased my F150, and it had the same info. The info I received from the dealer was that it was listed as a "damaged unit". Supposedly it was just some minor rear bumper damage which was repaired by Ford. Being that it came with the full factory warranty and I saved about $6000.00, I took the chance and bought it. 10,000 miles later, the truck has been flawless and has no problems. I would say research through the dealer and see if you can find out why it was sold at auction..... If it was something minor like mine was, I say go for it!

i personally am leery after my edge SEL experience. I bought it new in July '16, 7k miles and 3 months later, The car had 4 leaks and entire carpet, dash and windshield got replaced. Car was in pieces when I saw it. 2 weeks later it's for sale on dealers site. Car fax shows my oil change, 25 miles later it shows vehicle listed for sale, and the next day shows vehicle was towed. No mention the entire interior was gutted and replaced. It's listed for 32k with brand new '16 inventory still on lot dropped to 33-34k(for titanium)
WhIle Carfax shows a lot I still feel it's easy for stuff to either be hidden or just not show up. If it was minor delivery damage the dealer would have kept on lot and sold it, not sent it to an auction.

As for the truck that the OP is looking at... Manufacturers often have a fleet that they use for testing. During this testing period, they acquire miles and they have to be registered and licensed, if that testing is performed on public streets. And these tests dont have to be hundreds of miles. They may just be random QC tests, of particular sub-systems, in particular driving styles, habits, or traffic conditions. Actually pretty common in areas around a manufacturer's city. Then once testing has been completed, they sell these test units. But because they were previously licensed/registered to be used on public streets, they can no longer sell them as new, and often go to auction.
A friend of mine bought one in a similar situation, about twelve years ago. He owned that truck up until about four years ago and he had about 150,000 miles on it when he sold it. Other than standard maintenance, he never had any issues with it. I certainly wouldn't rule one of these out as a possible purchase, if inspected carefully. It could be a very good deal.

I don't fully trust Carmax....2 years ago I traded in my wifes 2014 Scion Tc (for a new 2015 Mustang) that had been hit twice and in the body shop twice for repairs with insurance claims. When I saw it on the lot at the dealer where I bought the Mustang I checked the Carfax and it was clean and only mentioned a recent oil change....go figure
