I was literally in the same boat a couple weeks ago. I was set on a 17 302 xlt (had to be a long bed which made it really hard in my area to find). Found a 15 lariat 502a with every option including Ford hard tonneau for 40 out the door before any trade in or mo yeah down. With 16k miles I went with the lariat (happened to be a longbed, in the color I wanted so it was meant to be). I do not regret it for a second. The creature comforts are second to none. Always dreamed of the lariat options but the new stickers are crazy. Just my opinion, ymmv

Used '15 if you're not wealthy. It will look pretty much the same. And function just fine.

New '17 if you're a Big Baller and money is no object.

i wouldn't say at the same cost its obvious, you are deciding between options and age. And its really comical how alot of people on here act like buying a 2 year old truck is this huuuuuuge gamble, like the odds are against you if you buy a couple year old truck.

Due to the price point of these trucks, alot of owners are well off or retired, and tend to have this "I would never buy a used truck, it might blow up!" attitude, as if they have never purchased a used vehicle in their life.

For 40k, get a new XLT and be happy with a brand new truck and warranty, or buy a 2 year old lariat/KR and have some more creature comforts, but have to deal with the struggles of a "worn out" 2 year old truck with a whopping 30k miles on it.....

If you were looking at any other motor option other than the gen 2 ecoboost 10spd , I would say pick the 15 lariat as long as it had the led headlights. But if I could get a 17 gen 2 ecoboost with heated seats and the 8" screen for a few thousand more, I would be all over the 17!

And

well you get the idea. I asked about a Raptor they had on the floor while my rig was getting the 20K service done, and asked one of their sales managers about the discount. They are offering another 3K on top of the prices they are advertising.
Neither of those are lariats or 502a lariats at that.

I was at $56,000 out the door for this. Just bought it in Feb. Brand new 2016 Lariat, FX4 loaded, 3.5L twin turbo. Dealer had a special for 10 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Its worth it to me for the warranty and everything that came with it. Just my thoughts.

Used is always a gamble. I never said the odds of the gamble... but one who buys new and trades often doesnt always treat it the same as one who plans to keep it for the long term. If it warranty issue =covered. If owner abuse, lack of maintenance = $ out of pocket. I used to hook up to a heavy trailer as soon as i brought truck home from dealer and ran it hard for long tow trips - in my trucks. Some traded at 2-3 yrs old and tuned from the start. Truck probably still fine but some here would think it was "abuse"... point is ya never know.

And a newer engine design and 10 speed are "options" that the used one doesn't have.

When I started my search I saw a Lariat in mid April in the low 40's

Mullianx has plenty of 2016's, all RWD, I wanted a sport 4WD. They are out there. I think they have one for 40k on their site.

So if you are going to buy a 2015, while not a new 2016? I dealt with Michael Stieber, good dude, bought my XLT sport 2017 from him. Love the truck.
