Default Used 2015 Lariat or NEW 2017 XLT

Been watching a lot of used truck ads and looking at new trucks as well. For new, I've been pretty set on a 3.5eco/10spd XLT with thet 302a package, max tow, and a console shifter. Those are the big ticket "wants." MSRP for equipped new trucks is around $50-52k, and I'm hopeful with a good sale and rebates I could end up somewhere around $43-44k OTD, does that sound about right?

I have the chance this weekend to take a look at a 2015 Lariat with what seems to be all the bells and whistles. It's a 5.0 with a 6spd. I really like the auto climate, 360* camera setup, and I'm hopeful is has power folding mirrors. With 34k miles on it, the price is right at $37k, so about $38.5k after taxes and registration I would guess.

So new 3.5eco XLT for 44k or used 5.0 Lariat (w/34k miles) for $37k?

Any strong opinions?

Totally. Although the 2015 would still have a couple years of powertrain warranty.

Other way to look at it is for $6k less I could get Lariat options and it comes with a camper top as well. That's what makes it a bit tough.

Overall I kinda think it's a coin flip. Might go see the used one, get a feel for the owner, and make sure that all maintenance records are in order and go from there.

Yeah. MSRP of the 2015 lariat is like $62k. Less in rebates for a new lariat also so price would have been, what, $55k or so?

You can get 16s new for 15K off sticker, so there are plenty of options. I would get a new 502 '16 for 40K, which is about 3K more than an XLT.

I was in a similar boat when I bought and I picked the used Lariat with 19k miles on it over the new XLT. No regrets at all.

What area are you in? In DFW, 2017 XLT's are ALL over the place for mid to upper $30k's. Laraits though, it's quite the jump. 302A to 500A is roughly $5k - $6k, but 302A to 502A (the lariat trim everybody seems to want) is closer to a $10k - $12k jump.

What's more important to you? Getting a brand new vehicle. Full warranty, you choose how it's taken care of, everything. BUT, it's not loaded (although my 302A has everything I'd ever need including heated cloth seats). Or would you want a used 2 year old truck, not knowing how it was taken care of? The bumper to bumper warranty is almost up (3 year or 36k miles), so unless you get an extended warranty, that could be costly. BUT, it is loaded which I'm sure is nice. The smart access entry, push button start, leather, etc...

I was in the same situation with a ~40k budget. I went with the 15 Lariat 502A. Im sure I would have been happy with an XLT but the added features on the Lariat is real nice.
