I have a 2016 XLT with the 4 inch screen. I recently purchased a sync 2 APIM and screen and when I called 4d tech to get a harness I was told that I would have to get sync 3 because a '16 never came with sync 2 and some things in the truck wouldn't communicate with it. Is this the case?

an FCIM from a 2017 SD Lariat (which has the 3 buttons) will also work. Ecat shows they are interchangeable. However, if a 2018 has only two buttons, then an FCIM from a 2015 (and newer) will fit.
Also keep in mind that you also need to reprogram the ACM to make the audio/voice part all work.

is there a how to on the reprogramming for the ACM? I have a 2018 which I just recently had to buy a new receiver for and since then talking on my phone does not work but Bluetooth audio works. It notifies me of phone calls and ext messages but I cannot hear anyone on the phone and they cannot hear me when I talk.
