Default Twist on extended warranty question...

Hello All,
I have about 250 miles left before my warranty expires. I have been planning on getting an extended warranty at this time. That said, I am entertaining a job switch that would provide a company truck, and thus I would sell this one. My question is, when buying a used truck, would you pay any more for the piece of mind of an extended warranty? I may end up keeping the truck if the job falls through, but if I am going to get the ESP, now is the time. I would only get the Ford factory plan, likely from Zeigler or Flood.

I know this is not an investment, and certainly wouldn't be the reason I would purchase it, but it got me thinking.

Thanks!

Yes, with the caution that you won't recoup the bulk of your money. It would likely make the sale of your used truck easier/quicker. Probably also should examine what sort of history you've had with your truck up to this point. If it has been relatively trouble-free, it will likely continue to be so for quite a few more miles.

Default Warranty

I would let it ride.. change your oil and don’t pull any trailers.. the f150 will go a lot of miles if you just take it easy with it. Many more than you expect...

I answered yes because 3 years ago I bought my first CPO vehicle. But thinking back it really didn't hold a premium to another non-CPO vehicle I found at the same time. I could have had both for the same price but the other had 4000 miles more. It was a year off of lease when I found it, almost like new with 8200 miles. It was actually better than a new vehicle warranty in that it extended the bumper to bumper and power train two years past original. The B to B ran out last year the power train next year. I never came close on mileage. In that time I had a mirror causing the LF speaker in the drivers door to vibrate and two software recalls. Never anything that raised concern or a flag and it's been a solid performer towing my TT.

Meticulous maintenance records would impress me as a buyer a lot more than a maintenance plan, which I could buy myself or give you a fraction of its value.
You can buy a plan and then cancel it and get a pro-rated refund if unused. Few think to.

If I were buying a 3.5, it would enhance my comfort to buy used. Not sure I would pay extra for the truck because of it.

Interesting thought, I did not know that. I would really only buy it in the event I ended up keeping the truck, but being able to get some of the purchase back if I did end up selling might help. Any Idea what that metric looks like? What the prorated amount is over time/ miles?

60K 5-6yr ESP base care plan with $100.00 ded. . Gives the buyer some piece of mind or you if you keep it at a reasonable cost. Just got my wives 2011 Rav 4 3.7 V6 27K out of the shop because of a bad head gasket. Have 6 months left on Toyota's CPO plan covered it all (2,300 bucks worth). Reason for buying a CPO vehicle the warranty.
