Turn off that Ecoboost engine/off 'feature' for good?
Ok - so the weirdest thing about this truck... I got a 2015 F-150 XLT 301A package, with 2.7 Ecoboost engine...
It does that 'feature thing' where when you come to a stop the engine sometimes turns all the way OFF. Thats a feature?
1st - Can someone explain how this is good? Like.. is it just for saving gas? Isn't it terribly hard on the starter? Is there some kind of special starter.. or does the engine not *really* turn ALL THE WAY OFF?
Any info about the feature would be appreciated... because this old boy just doesn't totally understand it...
Ultimately, unless someone really tells me some benefits.... is there a way to turn this OFF FOR GOOD? Like a setting in the truck somewhere? Because currently I have to push to OFF button everytime I restart the dang engine... gets a little old, if you use the truck all day like I do.
So; 2.7 Ecoboost auto engine off 'feature'; can anyone explain how its a FEATURE.. why we like it? AND how to turn it OFF FOR GOOD!!???!?!?!
Thanks in advance,
Paulie

No it's not terribly hard on the starter. Yes it is to save gas. No there is no way to turn it OFF FOR GOOD.
This has been discussed many many times over. I would suggest performing a simple forum search.

I must be the only one that actually likes it. It does save gas, I doubt the starter is going to wear out. Plus, you can control when you want it to work with the brake pedal. What's not to like?

I like it, saves gas, not annoying at all.
You can have it disabled more often by always leaving your front window defroster on and it won't shut off the engine. But if you live in a dry area, or once the air in the cab dries out, it will start turning off on you again.
The ONLY way to permanently disable the start-stop system is with a tuner.
That is all. End of story.

I don't see how you don't think it saves gas. It only starts shutting down when the engine is warm, which means it doesn't run rich at every startup. And if you drive through the city, and hit 20 red lights, wait 2 minutes at every light, then you've saved yourself from idling for 40 minutes. How is that not saving gas?

The 2.7L is a new engine this for this MY, so I understand why it was on that first. It very well could be on the next-gen 3.5L EB for 2017. I think the NA engines might be going the way of the dinosaur. Probably not anytime soon, but other than performance enhancements, don't know if much else is going to be done with them. That makes the most sense to me, at least.
