I'm looking at getting custom tuning for my '15 3.5EB, I was running 5 Star tuning in my '13 5.0 and was pretty pleased with the results. I was considering trying Livernoise this time as I have heard good things. However Livernoise is $200 more for a very basic tuner with custom tunes than the 5 Star SCT X4 with custom tunes. Who has experience with either of these tuners on a '15 3.5 EB and what are your impressions?

Just my .02 I have had 5 star and a few others on past trucks.

On my 15' I decided to try something new and heard good things about Leading Edge Tuning so I gave it a shot. While it felt like a little less improvement over what my 13' had I was still satisfied.

I kept hearing good things about 5* so I opted to buy the 91 perf/tow and give it a shot. Honestly I thought my truck had been returned to stock. It felt totally anemic in comparison to the LET tune I had so I immediately switched back and have been very happy.

Sorry if this doesn't help, but I have 5* tuning on my truck (2.7LEB) and while I don't have any prior experience with another brand, I am really impressed with 5*. I have the 87 eco, 87 perf/tow, and 93 performance. That 93 performance is ridiculous. I changed it back to 87 eco out of fear of speeding tickets.

Disclaimer is I haven't dyno'd this thing myself but I believe their graph that shows a huge gain in hp. The torque kicks in much higher in a lower RPM band as well.

I can't say anything about Livernois but I'm happy with 5*

If you are worried about reliability can you switch it back to stock if need be?

Yes, before uploading a custom tune, the device will download the stock tune from the truck and keep it in memory so it can be returned to stock.

if you don't mind me asking did your mileage improve after the tune on the 2.7?

Awesome thank you! One other quick question, when switching from tune to tune after they have been uploaded, is that a pretty lengthy cumbersome process?

I am sure more of our customers will chime in, but we were the first to market on the 15, and we have done more tunes than anyone. While our tuner may look basic, it's like any other computer device. It matters what is inside, and what it does for you. A flashy looking computer that doesn't get the job done was something we just wouldn't settle on.

Our biggest advantage is that we develop out own software. We don't have a software company that we rely on to tell us what the computer does and what to change, nor dictating what we have access to or not. We actually engineer the software for these so we ensure we have access to everything in there.

Case in point, we had a recent conversation with someone about what our software has as far as the amount of parameters we can change (the number is around 16,000 by the way) Now, he brought up that his software he was using had just a little over 800. So basically, we had 20 times more coverage in the computer than what he was able to access.

Put that into another walk of life. Look at a mechanic. Can a great mechanic do pretty good things with 20 tools in his tool box? yes, but it would be hard to say that it wouldn't be leaps and bounds better if he had 400 tools. This is how we view ourselves, but since we design the tools ourselves, we have invaluable knowledge on what the computer does, how it functions, and truly understand the language it speaks in.

Think of developing your own software as full language immersion (say moving to Germany for years and no longer speaking English) versus reading a book on translations. You can get the job done with that translation book, but you'll never grasp the full natural style of the language like you will from living there.

As for price point, we pride ourselves in how much development we truly put into these tunes. And we also include custom tweaks as requested by the owners of the vehicles, plus free adjustments for the life of ownership of the truck and tuner, plus free access to future revisions when released as well.

And this sounds like a typical unresearched reply.

I don't know if the MPGs went up. I was dumb and changed out my tires (31.9 to 34.1), removed my front air dam and tuned in the same day. I didn't recalibrate my speedometer until about a week after all that. Once I corrected the speedometer my MPGs didn't change much at all from stock tires and stock tune on my test trip.

I use my drive to work as a test trip. It's about 45 miles one way, same route every time, no traffic and hardly any stop lights. Stock tune and tires I was getting about 25.5MPGs. With 87 eco tune, 34" tires and a recalibrated speedometer I'm getting 23.8MPG. So not quite 2MPG loss on that trip. I don't do a lot of "city/town" driving so I haven't noted that mileage. Friday I'll have the 2.5" front/ 2.25" rear lift put on with 1.5" wheel spacers so I'll update the mileage after that.

In reality, if I'm still pulling >20MPGs with what I've done to the truck then I am beyond happy.
