Trying to justify 50k for a new truck
Ok im a guy almost 60, I make what I consider decent money, never had kids, married wife makes good money ...I got enough of a stash to live off to retire now but...when I see the price of these trucks I just cant justify it...I got the money but...maybe im just cheap..
I don't want nor need to finance a new truck but im leaning more towards a 13 or 14 KR or Lariat....do most of you guys pay cash ? I assume many finance but the buyers of the loaded KR and Platinums etc are you guys passing 60 or young...
Help me justify a new one,,,and another thing I hate that first ding or scratch another reason for used but cant seem to find what I want near me

I can relate. I am amazed at what a new truck costs. I often wonder how many people afford them.

Some similarities. I AM 60. Kids are now grown and outta schooling.
Mortgage paid off. Retirement on schedule but still working cuz I love it.
So......unlike every truck I've bought in the last 20+ years, this time I went in and bought my "bucket list truck".
I'm not even going to TRY to justify it. Instead, I'm going to squeeze every ounce of joy I can out of it. In fact, I took my brand new King Ranch to a sound engineer and had my "bucket list" sound system put in it. It's INCREDIBLE.
Then immediately took it to a suspension guru and had my "bucket list" suspension done to it.
And finally, I'm having my brand new 3.5 EcoBoost being "built" for bulletproof performance.
See where I'm going with this?
Don't even consider buying a $60-70k truck if the value equation is going to steal your joy. It just wouldn't be worth it. But if you can grab the bucket list perspective and run with it, then GO!
I'm having the time of my life with spending my kids inheritance on this truck. Lol
And honestly, they've encouraged me for the most part.
Anyways, you asked!

I am near your age and bought my 2018 Lariat this past October. Paid 55k for the truck. Between my trade and cash I have the title, no payments. I am going to ride this truck into retirement. I recently purchased a car to drive back and forth to work so my new truck will be used mostly as a recreational vehicle to tow my trailer in the summer. The truck is insured for 5000 miles per year. My truck is a garage queen for the most part but I like it that way.

I'd say just get it if it makes you happy! If you are thinking this much about it, then I'm sure you have your life together enough to just do it. I bought a brand new loaded XLT almost two years ago. I'm adding to it a little bit while still paying off all my other bills. Also putting money aside for my dream car..... a Raptor. Will have that in 4 more years. Just plan it out and if it makes financial senses, then do it and be happy!

Think back when Luxury vehicles cost less than 60K, and here we are buying a Ford pickup for those prices. When you think about it though, the Lariat and up are Luxury vehicles.
For me, I needed something that can tow my trailer, get me to and from work 119 miles a day, 5 days a week, and have good headlights and safety. Since I am in the dang thing 2 1/2 hours a day, I sure want it to be comfortable and worthy of the cost, and that turned out to be the 502A Lariat. I can afford it, so why the heck not. Too bad I couldnt plop down a large down on it, but when you lose your previous ride due to a crash, and still have 2 years to pay it off, doesn't leave you with much, especially when you expect to keep it for a few years, so have to finance it.
I just look at it as the cost of transportation. If I worked in Chicago, and took the train every day, the cost of the ticket would be about what I pay for the truck, and I would still need to have a vehicle, so it all works out in the end, just the cost of getting around.

You are 60. If the money isn’t an issue then do it. That’s if it something that will bring you a lot of joy. Yeah its cliche to say, but it’s true, life is short. Enjoy it. You can’t take your money with you when you die.

Riding ain't free. Some people refuse to ride big or pay big. I watched my dad commute for almost 40 years. He rarely bought a car with AC or a FM radio. It was transportation to him. Car payments were a sin....Hes been living the good life in retirement now because of his frugality.
