I’ll be keeping an eye on things. And because it happened, any vibration or noise makes you wonder now ha. My mind is playing tricks on me! The Ford tech said it was just a bad coil. He came and spoke to me and was pretty cool about it all.

Top tier gas has detergents in them and they help keep injectors cleaner. That is why ford added port injection on 2.7 and 5.0 engines for 2018 models to help with carbon buildup on valves. This is one of the reasons I purchased a 17 3.5 eco.

I was due to fill the truck up and decided to fill her with a tank of 91. See how she likes it.

So top tier gas only helps with keeping the injectors cleaner and has nothing to do with the turbos?
I’m just trying understand as this is my first engine (3.5EB) and someone said in this thread that only put tier 1 gas in anything with turbos. Just trying to figure out why tier 1 gas is better for turbos instead of regular gas.

The port injection is to meet upcoming particulate emissions standards, it may incidentally keep the valves cleaner but there are 8 years and a zillion miles of the 1st gen 3.5 out there and the intakes don't get dirty enough to interfere with function.

Talk to the guys with older 3.5 with 50-60,000 miles losing power and performance due to build up on intake valves. Thats the reason for catch cans.
