I don't have tailgate step so don't have that problem, but I know there are lots that do have this problem.
Maybe a 48in bar will fit for people that have tailgate step.

I had a similar problem with one. I had my Ford Dealer install it, they had to call a Ford trouble shooter at the next higher level. They got it installed and works great. Not sure how or what they did, but works amazingly well.

I have the tail gate step and they had no problem physically installing the 60" light bar. The issue was only with compatibility with the truck's electronics.

Looked up the part # on Putco site.
http://www.putco.com/products.cfm?ac...F-E82437D115EF

Just says that the light bar is compatible with trucks that have the Lane Keeping Assist system. Still has to be plugged into the 4 prong trailer harness. So not sure how this solves the issues.

I called Putco and they told me that wiring option 3 works with trucks with led tail lights and trailer detection. Looks like you have to run a 12volt wire from battery back to bar to avoid the trailer detection being activated .

Oh my bad. Didn't look at the pdf. So we would still need the y-harness to hardwire it...the problem I read about that is if you have the BLIS/ led taillights and you hardwire into them, it will throw codes.
