Transmission acts like it has a Jake brake
Driving some winding, hilly roads the other day, transmission in sport mode. Took my foot off the gas going down a hill,no brake applied, and got some serious engine braking, like the Jake brake on a semi.
Is this normal?
2015 xlt Scab, 2.7 Eco, 1500 miles.

I guess you didnt take the time to read a tiny bit about how Sport Mode work, did you?
leave the tranny in Normal mode, and the truck will just "free-wheel" down the hill and, depending on the situation, gain speed.
put it in Tow / Haul or Sport Mode, and the tranny will downshift to maintain your current speed, kind of like a Jake brake although it's totally different.
if you have ever driven a manual, you would do the same thing (downshift) to maintain speed downhill without touching the brakes. I use the + / - and or T/H all the time for that exact reason, even if I dont tow.

Yup I love sport mode for that very reason! It works great using it to maintain your downhill speed without riding the brakes. I was a little disappointed that it was kinda annoying to reach for the shift lever to manually downshift my truck when going down hills. But then I figured out how well sport mode does it for me automatically and I am very happy with the way it works.

The OP may not want to confuse a trade-named, compression-style engine brake (Jacobs Vehicle Systems &trade used in heavy trucks, with that of the transmission downshifting, causing engine the braking in our light-duty trucks. Two different beasts entirely. Most importantly, enjoy your new truck, OP!

....to summarize for OP in sport mode it will hold the gears longer so instead of going to 5 or 6, will likely stay in 3 or 4 depending on speed. When you hit the hill it engine braked, nothing wrong with the truck

I was going to post that being someone that has read the manual cover to cover a few times that I think that anyone that tells a new comer to read the manual must of never read it themselves.. As I find it not to be the best written manual and at times down right confusing.
Like when you're on page 93 and it tells you to see page 172 where it tells you to see page 93.. Note these page numbers are made up!
But seems I'm the dumb one as I could of swore there was a headed argument going on on this thread but seems I was mistaken..

believe it or not, my cat does the exact same thing when his "girlfriend" the neighbor's cat is in their yard... like he wants to be there but not be seen... guess he could be a mod great job on the clean-up though, thank you, it did get out of hand.
@bob, I sure as sh*t haven't read the manual cover to cover, but between that, google, this forum and the 10 billion trillion GB of stuff available on the internet, surely one can find an answer to almost any question
