Question Trans slips, slams, coverter, solonoid, rebuild?

Hi guys..!

I'm currently sitting at 80k. Recently did trans flush and Mishimoto trans cooler. Prior to the flush it seemed like the trans was slipping or not holding gears and it was down shifting with little throttle far to often on the highway. After the flush the shifting has gotten better. It now holds the gears instead of downshifting with light throttle. However, something still isn't right and I am now experiencing higher then usual RPMs in 6 gear (OD) on highway, or, the truck is still in 5th gear but says its in 6th.. If I shift into manual and downshift to 5th then back to 6th I seen no change in RPM, however, if I then start to accelerate more and get on it a bit it will shift, or, is this converter lockup finally being fully engaged..? This is driving me nuts and unlike any other slippage I've experienced in a vehicle with a slipping trans.. This one's got me..!

Over weekend, at WOT from about 45 merging onto the highway moving pretty good as truck was about to shift into 3rd and right as I was letting off the throttle it slammed really hard into 3rd gear..! Hard enough that my face cringed and THE WIFE LOOKED AT ME AND SAID WHAT WAS THAT, WAS THAT BAD...!? I implied that was a very hard and solid shift into 3rd gear and we're still moving but I really can't say whether or not that was good or bad..!

When I did the trans flush the fluid was really dirty however, the magnets were not that bad.. After putting on 300miles I got truck back on lift to check for leaks and fluid level when hot. All checked out perfect, no leaks and fluid level was dead center of B mark/Top Marker on that damn little dip stick and all the way under the truck...

I bought the Sonnax ZIP KIT and should have done the install when I did the flush however the valve body "pump and adapter seal" does not come with the kit. Time was not on my side so I left this for another day..

Prior to these recent slipping/shifting issues, I was going to still proceed with the ZIP KIT install. Originally, I suspected possible loss of pressure could be causing the weak and or delayed soft shifts and from what I have read this kit can correct these issues. However, I am beginning to think I have another or additional issue as well and don't know if just this ZIP KIT is gonna cut it..

I know I have lots of carbon build up that I am currently waiting to blast out, and I'm hoping this is the cause of my loss of power. However, I also question can the ECU limited or retard fuel or power based on trans fluid pressure or converter lockup...? This power reduction seems to be intermittent.. Sometimes the trucks moving well sometimes it seems sluggish and during those times it usually seems like its trans/slip related...

I do need to mention this.... When I first got the truck I did several mods and flashed performance tune and when I got on it. Advanced Trac OFF, a WOT hit at a 10mph roll roasting tires through 1st moving out insanely fast and when it went to shift into 2nd gear it made the loudest grinding noise (right front center of floor where bell-housing is) I've ever heard didn't shift into 2nd, just held high RPMs and I thought I blew the trans for sure... Immediately I let off the throttle and pulled over shut off the truck and restarted hoping I didn't destroy the trans on a truck I only had for maybe 2 months. To my surprise, it wasn’t broke..! I was then fairly gentle on it now and no more WOT hits like I had done that day.. I think I also flashed it back to 87octane perf/tow. All seemed to be fine, however, I knew what I heard was NOT good, but, whatever it was hadn’t broken "yet" either.. (Converter clutch noise?)

I knew it would only be a matter of time but for the most part I had stopped giving it WOT like that for a very long time until I did trans flush recently. I have done several more upgrades including turbo and flashed new tunes currently running performance 93. Unfortunately, it seemed like the truck moved out faster before.. It seems like power is being limited an account of trans slippage because its only getting worse..

If anyone has had any personal experience with any issue like this or can share any useful information to help me figure this one out it’s much appreciated..! I may also be in the market for a performance built trans/converter if anyone knows where I can get one I’m all ears!
