Default Trailer Light controls

2016 F150 XLT 4x4 5.5 ft bed. Does this truck have trailer brake controls as standard equipment. I have no visible controller in the cab, but the seven pin plug mounted in the bumper.

If you have the 7-pin connector then you have a TRM (TRailer Module) which controls the trailer lamps. Trailer electric brakes are controlled by a dash mounted TBM (Trailer Brake Module). TBM was factory installed only on trucks with the Max Tow option (Code 53C). A controller can be easily added to most trucks and there are many threads in this forum on this subject. If you pull the little coin holder out there should be an electrical plug attached to it. That is the connector for the TBM. The TBM then needs to be initilized by a Ford dealership or with FORScan.

Here is where you will find the TRM next to the brake pedal.

And here is the TBM.

Nope, you’ll need to add the ITBC (Integrated trailer brake controller).

Make sure you buy an oem unit from a reputable ford dealer. There are more counterfeit versions out there than youd imagine and those will have problems. If the price is too good to be true, pass.

After instal, it needs to be activated either by a dealer or with forscan.

Default Or aftermarket

I bought a Tekonsha wire harness for the controller from my previous truck. Plugged right in to the harness previously mentioned.
