Default Trailer Brake Controller

I have a 2018 F150 XLT 2.7L. with a 30amp fuse in slot 24. I added the factory brake controller and turned on the two trailer brake controller modules with forscan. I can adjust the gain setting and it shows up on the dash, but with the trailer hooked up it's not outputting to the trailer brakes when I press the brake pedal. If I manually activate the trailer brakes with the lever I can feel the brakes engage, but a message pops up on the dash and says no trailer connected.

It's like the truck doesn't know there is a trailer hooked up, but when I unhook the trailer a message pops up and says trailer disconnected. Any ideas on where to look next?

I was on the Forscan site and reading different brake controller threads. There was something said about if the factory controller expecting some level of voltage and or resistance in the electric brake circuit and if it's not there in thinks the trailer is not connected. The guy was able to do much like you some manual stuff. Maybe take a look there. I seem to remember the site offered a few pdf on the topic. Good luck.

Did you buy a genuine FORD OEM controller? Seems there have been several threads where folks had trouble with 3rd party controllers getting them to work with the truck. When they swapped to an OEM controller all the issues went away

I have the exact same truck. Did the exact same thing and have the exact same problem. Any info on what it was or what it took to fix the issue.

also ran into this today on my Dad's 2016 Lariat, any follow up with a fix?

I installed factory part number JL3Z2C006AA. enabled via Forscan. I can select plus and minus to select gain value on controller, but when you squeeze the manual operation, it pops up with "trailer disconnected".
