trailer battery not charging! No trailer

Ford doesn't have approved fix
Hi, The 2015 F150 that I bought last week is displaying the same message on and off. Took it in yesterday to the dealership I bought it from and they said Ford is aware of it and investigating the issue, but hasn't given an approved fix, so they couldn't do anything. Told me I just have to check back periodically. Not cool.

Same thing happened to me... Although noticed it was after I washed the truck. Looked at the trailer tower connector & water was standing in connectors. Took hair dryer & dried out - letting sit for a bit longer.. No more pesky non-stop warning message. However did mention it as it went into dealer today for a list of items. Will see what they have to say.

Jan 7 2016 2478 - 2015-2016 F-150 - Trailer Disconnected And/Or Trailer Battery Not Charging Displayed In The Message Center
Some 2015-2016 F-150 vehicles may exhibit a trailer connected then trailer disconnected and/or a trailer battery not charging message displayed in the message center when no trailer is being used. To correct the concern, reprogram the Trailer Module (TRM) to the latest calibration using IDS version 98.04 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates.

I experienced the same issue. Very annoying. I took the tsb message you have posted into dealer and they said no fix was recommended. Finally, after reading Nana,s 150 comment I just blew the connector out with an air hose and put dielectric grease on terminals and that sorted out the problem.

Anyone who tows needs to carry dielectric grease. It keeps moisture out of the plug, prevents corrosion and does help make the connection. Also those who use a 7 pin plug, the cheap plastic 2 inch ball cover you can pick up at Wally World fits perfectly over it, helping keep the plug cleaner and dry.
Both are cheap insurance when you look at the price of replacing that plug and possibly the female plug on the truck.
Also make sure you have seated the plug and locked it in place. A lot of people hook up without making sure there is enough slack to account for turns, where a short cable will unseat the plug.

I had my cargo trailer hooked up last night, in pouring rain, and had to haul it back and forth to a location in the wet weather. Unhooked last night, then this morning, when heading to work, the "trailer battery not charging" message popped up 3 times on the way. Once at at work, I opened the 7-way cover on the bumper and there was water running out. I dried it up with paper towel the best I could and have the cover propped open for now, it's windy, so hopefully the day will dry out the plug, and solve the problem. Is there an actual TSB for this that Ford will repair or re-flash for no charge? If the dry out solves the problem, likely no need to visit the dealer? Thanks for your help
