One of the major things i want in the lariat is keyless everything. I've been driving my brothers ram 2500 tradesman 4 door 8' bed and man i hate needing to pull the key out of my pocket for opening the doors. im so used to the mustang auto unlocking for me.


My 401a mustang has spoiled me as well. heated and cooled seats Amazing lighting all over. No key needed for anything (except being in my pocket of course).

I plan on getting a truck. No matter what happens here, i need a truck.

I know i've been looking at 302a but as i mentioned there are a few things about the lariat that i really really want.

I would probably get 3.55 FX4 pack.

How often do you need the truck? If you’re only using it around town it may be cheaper to pay to rent one from Menards, Uhaul, etc than take a bath on a trade in. Trucks are fantastic, but they’re not always convenient when you aren’t using them as trucks. You may be ahead of your Mustang loan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not losing money when you trade it. I can buy a $30,000 car, put down $10,000, and owe the bank $20,000. If I trade it in a year later for $24,000, I didn’t profit $4000. I lost $6000. Equity can be deceiving. It seems like this may be an impulse buy. Unless you legitimately need a truck, I’d pump the brakes and consider what else you can be doing with that money. It sounds like you’re in good shape financially and you already have access to a truck when you need it. No need to rush into debt.

Man, hard to say. I can't live without a truck, but I love sports cars. Do you really have a use for a truck? Are you young and single where a sports car is a babe magnet? I can't recommend an early 00s F150, I owned two in that generation and they were not the best quality trucks. The Lariat is a nice ride, so is the XLT.

I fully understand profit vs equity. That said buying a new car never leads to making money so equity is the next best thing. Again i obtained this 17 through lemon law so its right around break-even on profit while still being 12k equitable. its the best chance of getting out of a new car with money i have and probably will ever have.

That being said; yes i have limited access to my brothers truck. he lives an hour away. its a pain. i've been around trucks my whole life. I dont really understand the rushing into debt comment. i'm already indebted in the mustang there's virtually no difference.

I really would prefer to have one of each hahaha. i had an 01 cherokee that i bought stock and did a crap ton of work to over the last5 years that i just sold last week so i have a bit of cash floating from that; plus 9k from the dealer on the trade in, i would haveno problem buying an older sports car to suit my needs while dailying the f150 lease. one way or another i end up with a truck and a car no matter what.

Oh boy, I've been down this road a few too many times. I love Mustangs as much as any other guy, but there's no way I could DD them. Having a truck, especially a newer one, is so nice. They're really fast, incredibly comfortable, spacious, and you can tow/haul stuff! I say buy a Lariat (so you can keep the same creature comforts as your Mustang), pay the truck off ASAP, then keep the truck and finance a GT again. That's what I'm doing.

Long story short, I traded in my last truck (Ram 1500) last year on a new GT premium performance pack. It lasted 3 days and I brought the car back. Luckily the dealership allowed me to bring it back within 3 days no questions asked. I LOVED that car, but not as much long term as I do a truck. Ended up trading in that Ram for my current F150 and couldn't be happier. My roommate did the same thing, traded in his Ram 1500 for a 16' GT premium PP and regretted it. He only had the car for 4 months before he couldn't take it anymore and traded it in on a 14' FX4. Now he's very happy. But he did lose $5k on the trade, plus his $1500 Corsa exhaust.

buying a lariat is a bit out of the question. lease to buy might be doable for me but certainly not buying outright.

Have you thought about looking at an STX? It's the best bang for your buck and you get a lot of nice options while retaining a cheaper price.

Nope. Havent even considered it. Way too low end for my tastebuds lol. Its definitely a great work truck package but its still exactly that at its core, an XL work truck.

I have one and I'm very impressed with it. We use it as our new family vehicle. Everyone that gets in it is also impressed with how nice it looks and rides. Does not resemble or feel like a work truck AT ALL. I would suggest going down to your dealer and at least looking at one, possibly even test drive one and then formulate a more constructive opinion on the STX after that. You never know, you may be surprised... whats the worst that could happen?
