Actually got a better deal once returned to stock. Don't throw away your money.
I would agree.

I would agree unless truing to sell it privately first. Someone could easily come along and fall in love with it as is. They don't know how or want to take the time to make it the way you have it. Trading it in... return it back to stock. Reuse or sell your aftermarket stuff.

I agree with everyone who is saying take it off. Like others, I traded in my 15 XLT that was modified. I got a trade value and asked what the difference would be if I took all of the modifications off. At this particular dealership: None. I took off the bed cover, wheel spacers, AMP running boards, tuner, etc. I was able to sell all of it quickly. Some of it on this site. I left the level and rear block because I figured they would be tough to sell compared to time invested in removing it. Rear block not a big deal but the level? Nope.

I agree, rarely does a dealer want a modified vehicle. Around here they may take it as there is a market for pre-built trucks (they always have a few new ones lifted/etc on the lot) but they don't give you nearly what was put into building it.

If they aren't even going to sell it and are sending to auction you get virtually zero for your aftermarket parts.

EDIT: When I traded mine in they told me I might as well take off anything I wanted before trading (so I pulled the tonneau cover / light bar / bed mat all off in their parking lot).

What the dealer cares about, and only cares about is the VIN. It tells them everything they need to know about the truck and value it based on that. Their insurance company cares about one thing, the VIN, and bases the policy on that, so all those mods are meaningless to them as they may pay you for them, but if something were to happen to the truck before it is sold, the insurance wont pay them for the mods, so chances of actually getting anything for them are slim to none. I traded Red Devil in with exactly what it came with minus the shocks. Everything else I took off or out of it and using it all in my new one.

Sad to see her go but keep all your goodies and reuse or sell em for some fun money. They mean nothing to the dealer. I traded my 15 last month and took everything...bought a 300a and traded in a 300a. I only left the mud flaps because they may or may not have marked the paint. I took out everything else from remote start to boxlink, if it didn't come with the truck it didn't go with it.

Yeah that's a risk of having someone come along that likes it or not. I showed my Xterra to a dozen interested people when I was selling it, and most seemed uninterested in all the mods but liked the look. I had a lift that included custom-made suspension that I had made for it, custom roof rack with roof lights, 4 in front, 2 in the rear that had a wireless remote. Added a hitch. Added a modular electrical rail system for add-ons. Aftermarket stereo with NAV and Satradio. Added rear-view camera. BullyDog GT Tuner, full LED conversion with extra LED driving lights in the grill and 3 sets of tires that included a new winter set and some new Cooper Discoverer STT mudders and it had a brand new clutch installed. Everyone was lowballing me. Only the last guy appreciated it and offered slightly less than I was asking.

I buy cars for a living. It all depends on the dealer and the '"look" that your truck has. Aftermarket wheels and tires matter a ton to me. Sometimes its a big add, sometimes it's a big deduct. Engine mods and tuners are always a huge deduct. Suspension lifts are something else that can be good or bad. Depends on the lift and how it drives.

Take 'em off and Ebay, Craigslist, & Buddy Deal the rest. You will get at least Fifty Cents a Dollar back on the big stuff. The stuff that's more trouble than it's worth to change (like Bullet Motor Mounts on my Stang) and especially if It's fairly invisible leave it on.

This.... Depends on state, but I'd try private party first if the finances make sense, but here you lose out on the 10% tax incentive (sales tax difference) to trade it in. Annoys the hell out of me we still have that which is basically just a dealer subsidy, but it is what it is.

.
Which is to say, " pay less buying " & sell it for more than if it were stock..
