Towing Problem
 

Bought 2015 Ford F150 with 3.5 ECO, 3.55 axle, tow max
Having swaying problems towing a 5,600 lbs travel trailer.
Towed same trailer with 2004 F150 with no sway problem.
2015 does an awesome job with towing power, but the sway is scary.
Called Ford customer service and they looked in the owners manual for reference to fix the problem.
Built Ford Tough?

Have you looked into a rear sway bar?

I know its the same trailer but you really need to look at your hitch weight. It should be about 10-15% of the total trailer weight. If the hitch weight is too low it can cause sway. Are you using anti-sway bars on the trailer hitch to the truck?

I have only looked into LT tires and air bags. Was hoping to get guidance from dealer and Ford customer service. I'm finding that this problem is beyond their capability.
It seems like they never seen this problem before.

Tongue weight is 700lbs.
Ball is 1" above the level trailer height.

Most likely a weight distribution issue. Have you weighed the trailer loaded to see what percentage of the weight is on the tongue?

1. swaybar
2. LT tires
3. add a leaf
4. heavy duty shocks (5100's)

stock rear suspension has the same feel as a trampoline.

So your weight looks ok. With the Ball 1" above are you saying that the trailing is now pointing up a little? If so this can cause air to get up under the trailer lifting it and causing sway. Better to be perfectly level or a little nose down.


Also are you running anti-sway bars and weight distribution?

WDH anyone? I thought the hitch with no WDH was rated for 5,000 / 500 TW?

That was my next thought as well.
