This has happened to me on multiple brands of vehicles I've owned. I used to live down gravel roads and have seen my fair share of rock issues due to it. If the manufacture decided to make everything on the vehicle to withstand anything we'd all be driving tanks. Its like getting a rock chip and trying to get the dealer to give you a new truck, or a scrape from a large rock I ran over and it bounced up.....

Ya I understand that living where I do I'm going get chips and smashed windshields and lights , but the plastic on the leading edge of the telescoping support should be as thick as the mirror cap I just changed. I really think a beetle would have done the same damage! And for 1700$ for one mirror because they don't sell all the parts is a huge scam. How many people are hitting their mirrors in drive thrus or in the bush let alone the ones getting hit by other people in parking lots? Knowing the owner will probably use insurance to replace a 75$ mirror at 1700$ is a pretty good business plan ( unless you are the owner or insurance company )

Looks like he's giving you a great deal at list price.

Ask him to take at least 30% off list.

Still should include a trip to Vegas and hookers for that price. Can get one in states for 850$ US from Tasca. I have an appointment at Fiber New on 28th to have it repaired. I will post pics then.

The aluminum skin is just about the same thickness as the old steel trucks. Maybe .05" difference. The aluminum sub panels are thicker than the steel trucks. And the aluminum is stronger after heat treating.

Update! Had the hole fixed at Fibernew. Can't even tell there was a hole. 80$ for repair is way better than 1700$ for a new mirror. I'm going to figure something out before next winter to cover the supports as that seems to be the weak link. If anyone has any suggestions on covering the support arms let me know.

You might have it scanned and a shield printed on a 3D printer. They should be able to take the scan, design a snap on shield

Looks perfect. What is Fibernew? How do they repair and match the color and texture?
