I bought a couple of
these these
to use to connect the ends of the recovery strap. Expensive but if they break they're a lot safer than chains, hooks, ect.... I still use a d-ring trailer receiver on the back and the trucks hooks on the front. Be careful of the strength of what you use for connections, anything heavy that breaks can come sailing through your window and seriously hurt or kill you! Also watch the rating on on the D-Rings you buy. I purchased my shackle hitch receiver from Rhino also, American made and excellent quality!

We use log chains here. Yes, they are heavy. I can carry a large 30' with a hook on both ends. Folks around these parts have them in the pickup bed or floorboard. You can make a loop at either end and fasten it onto itself.
