I feel your pain. Similar thing happened to me, except me and the fam were stopped in traffic when an oncoming small car hit us. Not a huge amount of damage, but thankfully the insurance company totaled it. Ours was 9 months old with 5000 miles. We had a similar issue with the at-fault driver having low level insurance; $50k vehicle damage limit and she totaled two 2016 vehicles. Thankfully, we both had State Farm and they treated me well. My policy covered my truck, but I had all deductibles, extra rentals, etc. paid as well. I was assured it wouldn't affect my rates. I had gotten a smoking deal on the truck, so we basically got back what we had paid and I turned around and bought a 2017 F150, but stepped up from a Scab to a Screw.

You were lucky to not be in the truck at the time, or even worse getting in or out, but I have to say that I was pretty impressed with the way ours handled the collision. Safety, particularly for backseat passengers, was a significant factor in staying with the F150.

I love my truck but I have a 2012 with steel. Not trying to sound like a dick but neither one of those trucks shown with the damage they did would of had anywhere near the damage if the trucks weren’t being made with this bs aluminum. Next truck I will probably go back to ram since ford wants to use this bs. The old steel trucks you could hit with a tank and they needed new bumper, fenders, hood and grill.

I had a 2015 totaled. If it had of been made of steel, like the 2014 F150 that hit me, I’d of been hurt like the other guy and more than I was. I’ll stick with aluminum from here on out.

I am willing to pay more for insurance if it means my family is safer and better chance of less injury in the even of an accident. you just never know if life. Hard to ignore the crash test ratings of the new aluminum fords. yes they do crumple more than the steel, but I would have to think that would absorb more of the energy from the impact instead of transfer that to the occupants.

Go check the safety ratings and tell me which one is safer.
