Tires, Nails and Warranties
I wasn't sure how long this had been in my rear tire, but randomly checking the pressure readings while flipping through screens, noticed it was lower than the others, and, there you have it. Sidewall, no patching that one. Hankooks, 2400 miles. Great.
Called the dealer and they looked up whether I had purchased the tire road hazard warranty. Of course not. Purchased every other warranty apparently.
I had already had Discount Tire order one in, and expected it next week, but they got it overnight (when does THAT ever happen...). When I ordered it, they said I could get the road hazard warranty on it AND the other 3 for 26 bucks each. When I went in to get it mounted, I joked that it was to bad I couldn't get it retroactive to the one with the nail in it. Type, type, type, type... HE FRIGGIN DID IT! 5 road hazard warranties at 26.00, made the 178.00 tire.. COVERED. Because they were basically new, he could do it. If you haven't purchased a tire hazard warranty yet, 104.00 seems pretty cheap if they'll do it. They had the splined gorilla lugs too, so had them do that also (he even said the Ford lugs "grow", and are a pain). About 200 bucks, and I was looking at that just for the tire. Shout out to Discount Tire, but also a tip for the after purchase warranty (not sure they'll do it unless you have to get a new tire, but worth a shot).

Discount Tire will provide that new tire warranty on any new vehicle within xxx miles (don't know the number). What that employee did wasn't correct, at least from DT's perspective. If this isn't really an insurance product, i.e. DT offers it and makes money on it, then he probably just violated their policy, or not, if they say "do it if you sell 4 more policies". If it's an insurance product with a 3rd party, then he committed insurance fraud, but I doubt it is that.

Discount has offered me 4 certificates almost 20K after I purchased tires that all went out of round (junk Cooper Discoverer HT+). They said, buy the 4 certificates, we will send you 4 tires. But I was not allowed to buy certificates for the 4 tires they sent me. Shortly after that, those 4 tires started having issues. But I didn't care because I was trading the truck in. I did tell the dealer the tires were not the best out of honesty. Of course this was on tires that I had originally bought from Discount, not tires that came on the truck.

I purchased the road hazard warranty for all my new tires over the last couple decades.
Another benefit other than hazard tire replacements at least where i have been buying my tires from is that it includes free tire rotations.
I'll check out Discount Tires next time i need a set.

Discount Tire will rotate your tires free. My F-150 has original tires, and they have rotated, and balanced them, for free each time. They also offer free flat repair, done with patches, not plugs. Even when I did an initial oil change with a dealer, I then drove to Discount Tire for my tire balance and rotation. I can literally stand next to the vehicle while they do the work, ensuring proper rotation sequence.

Glad to see you now have all your tires covered in case you have something like this happen again in the future.

DT warranty has saved me from a new tire often.
My wife seemed to try to get nails in her tire every week for a month or two straight. They replaced it each time no questions asked.
My TT and my and my wife's vehicle now have their warranty.

While I still question if what was done here is ethical, Discount Tire earned my business long ago such that I never shop around anymore. I rarely get a nail and use Dynaplugs anyway so don't buy the warranty.
Took a friends trailer that I was using for a leak. When DT discovered a bad valve stem they also repaired that for free, including the new stem. It's the only place I send my Mom and Sister for tire work without my escort. They aren't perfect and do make mistakes, but at least they are mistakes and not trying to screw people over.

I haven't bought road hazard warranties in years. I had a screw in the middle of one of my tires a few weeks ago, local tire shop plugged it for $12, didn't even have to take the wheel off.
