thoughts/opinions: 2015 Platinum CPO
Hey all, so I've recently ramped up my search for a '15-'17 platinum V8 w/701a, fx4, pano roof, active park assist and short box after a bit of a hiatus. There seems to be no shortage of ecoboost models to choose from on the pre-owned market (which I'm not considering) but 5.0's have been slim pickings with my exact criteria (plus Brunello interior color preference) until I recently ran across this listing as a potential candidate. Wanted to get some thoughts/opinions from current owners a bit more experienced with the this generation truck: CPO 2015 Platinum
Ultimately, I would prefer a '16 or '17 for sync3 but don't really mind sync2 since I'm used to it in my wife's Lincoln (tbh I think it's livable day to day and isn't that bad contrary to popular opinion). That said, while this is a low mileage example (~41k) and is certified, it's not without some initial concerns upon pulling the Carfax here.
Firstly, it's already had two previous owners and I'd be the third (I generally stick to one-owner vehicles when considering pre-owned). Also, there is previous "damage" as indicated by the Carfax but it's not listed as an accident so I'm not really sure what it could be and what bearing stuff like this has on Ford's certification process, if any. Finally, given the aforementioned, I definitely think the truck is overpriced @ $42.6k. If I decide to go this route (certainly after taking everyone's thoughts into consideration) I would try to negotiate as much as possible. Given my research I think this should be priced at or around the sub $40k mark.
Again, just wanting to get some thoughts/opinions - thanks in advance!
*side note* I also found a '17 platinum that fits the bill HERE and is still under factory warranty (albeit barely @ 35k miles). It's a bit farther away, though and doesn't have the brunello interior but is cheaper ($39.9k) and 2 years newer which lends to sync3, Apple CarPlay/android auto, trailer pro backup assist, etc. Clean Carfax but w/open recall for the carpet shielding and insulation rework.

. That said, we're a high income household with limited debt outside of first mortgage/cars and financing the aforementioned (@ low, competitive rates) allows us to deploy our disposable income/assets into higher yielding strategies appropriate to our risk appetite/time horizon/goals to create a positive interest spread. As I had mentioned, yes, the price is high and if the dealer told me there was no room to negotiate I would walk immediately. Even being CPO, the simply market doesn't justify that kind of price for a 4 yo truck IMHO.

Being a financial professional I have my own thoughts/feelings on Dave Ramsey but won't get into that here

That '15 is almost a 5 year old vehicle. No way it's worth that much!
I went round and round looking at low mileage used F150's and ended up buying new. Once you look at the age and wear of the used ones I feel they are overpriced in general. It was common to pick up a gently used vehicle for about half of original price. That just isn't happening now.
Even with my degree in Finance and an MBA, I can't justify saving the money for a used F150 when they are still so darn expensive. Look at it another way...If you took a 3 year loan on the 5 year old vehicle, that would be like taking an 8 year loan on a new one! At the end of 8 years from now, you'd be in the same place as buying that used one. If you can swing the payments on new, it makes more financial sense to me.
That's opposite of the advice I used to give when gently used vehicles were half price or less. Plus, dealers are swinging crazy deals on new F150's. With zero negotiating, the dealer knocked $9,500 straight off of my sticker and gave me 20% over KBB for my used trade.
