Default Thinking of switching order to F250

Fellas,

I've had a F150 Platinum on order for over a month, with no build date as of yesterday. Earlier this week I drove by a new F250, and was really impressed. I built one on Ford's website and the 250 is about 14k more money, Platinum v. Platinum. I'd really like that Diesel engine in the 250. Anyway, I'm thinking of changing the order to the 250 and wanted to see what ya'll thought.

Thanks.

Well...aside from the obvious that we'll have to disown you in this 150 section of the forum, nothing. Lol, j/k go with your gut and enjoy!

If you tow HEAVY loads often, then yeah Do It!

Otherwise, save your $$$, imo... But, like I said, its my Opinion, and your Money!

Well, the first question is... do you *need* a Super Duty/PSD? If no, then do you just *want* one bad enough that you're willing to drop another 14K on it, plus increased costs over the life of the truck?

Upsides to SD/PSD:
Built to pull
Higher GVWR
Longer life expectancy (maybe)

Downsides:
More expensive
Bigger/heavier
PSD motor requires expensive oil changes and is very sensitive to fuel quality (a bad tank will net you a $12K repair bill)
PSD motor doesn't like short trips
More expensive fuel (arguably offset by improved MPG - maybe)
Harsher ride

IMO... if you *need* the SD/PSD, you should've ordered one in the first place. If this is a commuter vehicle and you just want the SD/PSD because it's cool... it's a waste of money.

You'll get that extra money back when you trade in the truck for a new one in a few years. I thought about doing the same thing. Tired of getting nothing back after 4-5 years on trade in. With the diesel motor your trade should be worth a lot more on the 250 than if you got a 150.

The new F250's are beautiful and the Powerstroke is a TQ monster.

Just a quick general answer, leaving out a lot of details:

Unless you tow heavy, you will regret getting a 250. F150 has nicer ride, easier to park, better mileage. It really only loses to the 250 in payload and towing. Unless you're the guy who has to have the biggest truck it's not a smart move.

You'll need to gut the DPF on the diesel 250 and run an aftermarket tune if you want the engine to really last.

That's a good point. Residual values for the SD have always been a strong point and the 2017's are aluminum which is a plus

Just traded my '15 Platinum F350 SD for a '16 Lariat F150 (3.5 Eco) a few months ago because I don't pull anything. The only thing I miss is the torque/throttle response of the 6.7 PSD. I do not miss the rough ride and maintenance costs. As for fuel mileage, I was getting better mileage with the diesel. Overall I am really pleased with my decision
