Things Ford should steal from GM
#81
You brought up one of the things I HATE (that might be a little dramatic) most about GM vehicles - When people unlock them in the parking lot and the reverse lights come on while I'm driving through an aisle in a parking lot. I always get a little nervous that it's actually running and in reverse and going to back out in front of me - but once I realize it's a GM I relax.

True enough, but I think what freaks me out is catching the white reverse light out of the corner of my eye and then not being sure if the brake light was on or not by the time I focus on the vehicle. Haha, it's just something that messes with me a little.

Contradicting? I don't think so. The Chevy I'm riding in has far and away a better drive train and handling. The F150 has better creature comforts. The title of the thread is "what Ford should borrow from GM". Radio presets? Really?
My F150 is a 5.0 with 12k mi and frankly I'm sick of it. Driving the Chevy only underscored how poor mine is. I can't believe Ford could roll out such an under powered truck. It's on par with my Honda Ridgeline. At this point, I have to decide between a new EB or a Whipple kit.
Then there's the high idle and bucking when engaging gears. The Chevy does none of this. Also, the Chevy won't drive thru a wall if you take your foot off the accelerator while in gear. That makes the F150 a PITA to maneuver in tight spots.
Then there's the pokr towing ability. I tow 6x12 box trailer with 3 dirtbikes in it. The 5.0 STRUGGLES to maintain 65 on the freeway. It downshifts to freekin 2nd gear!
As for the suspension, the F150 SUCKS royally. This is well documented on this forum. I already replaced/upgraded the rear shocks and installed a swaybar and it's still 10x worse than the stock Chevy.
Oh, I was wrong about the model year of the rental I'm driving. It's a 2016. The rental agent said it was "brand new" and I thought he said 2018. What's the difference?

TomJV

Agreed, there is something very wrong with your truck. The 5.0 is a beast, not as strong off the line like the 3.5, but still much stronger than what GM has. It should have no issues with a 6x12 enclosed, should feel like there isn't a trailer back there.

I agree on the steering wheel tilt. That is really needed. And the up/down lever is a pain. As for the stereo... There are VERY few factory units that really sound good. High end sedans, but not trucks. Speakers are the culprit. I spent less than $200 on new Kicker speakers, and put a small powered bazooka tube under the back seat. Less than $400, including having the Tube installed. Results were amazing. I have the "high power" radio in my 2012. You can put the best head unit in the world in it but without good efficient speakers you are wasting your efforts.

Low washer fluid indicator.
Rear step bumper.
weather stripping closer to the edge of the doors. when I wash the truck I have to open the doors and clean a LOT of dirty stuff out of areas that ought to be protected.
better cellphone storage in/on the console.
Ability to re-program the sync screens. I have redundant hvac buttons right below the screen. I use them for all but the steering wheel heater. Would prefer to have that quadrant of the screen default to weather or traffic information without having to press umpteen buttons to get into them (while driving!).
better paint protection for the leading edge of the hood, behind the wheelwells, etc.
