Are these noises a problem?
I was about to post a video that sounds identical to yours. My engine runs strong, i don't care if it sounds like a diesel as long as it doesn't blow up!
Not looking to start an argument, but a couple of things in your comment caught my eye. I've seen in other threads where you said you use Lucas oil treatment in your 5.0. IIRC, Lucas treatment is a thickener that has the effect of increasing viscosity. How is that different from using a heavier weight oil?
Also, if using a 5w-30, 40, etc. oil instead of 5w-20, the cold viscosity is supposed to be the same, so it shouldn't affect cold cranking? Though I can see how a 5w-30, 40, 50 oil might affect phaser timing when the engine is hot.
I have "heard" from various unverified random people on the internet that Moly additives can lead to deposits in the engine over the long term. Do you have any thoughts on that?
I'm not an expert on any of this by any means. Just trying to make sense of everything I hear.

Thanks for asking.
I did initially use one qt of Lucas to 7 qts of 5W20 plus the additive in summertime when this all began but have stopped using anything but 5w20 Mc Blend with the Moly additive. 7qts oil to one 300 ml additive by volume, is a weak concentration that takes time to see results, in this case application.
On the Moly, it is a polar crystalline metal that is attracted to other metals within the engine. The weak Crystaline structure make is non destructible to any other parts. The Micron size is very small in Disulfide form. and 300 ml including the carrier oil it is in, is not high enough concentration to do any blockage.
This is the benefits of using it. It fills voids, provides extras cushioning between parts that reduce noise levels and additionally reduces friction.
Most modern oil additive packages are developed by one of only three sources that do all the testing for and to a customer specification.
All the oils normally found in the marketplace by the name Co, do not do any of the additive package themselves but buy it in bulk from one of the suppliers to add, on the production line, into the containers.
As to the Moly, the modern oils additive packages have three basic roles in the oil. They are Antioxidants, Corrosion inhibitors. Antti foaming agents and Demulsifying agents.
MOLY can play a part in more than one area.
The net result is to close the cylinder lining small 'voids' that are holding too much oil, as the benefit in this rare situation.
For further info on oil package applications, look up the Noria Corporation -- A Practical Guide to Additives. What they are, what they do, what applications to use them, and in what concentrations % for each application divisions.
It is interesting to find out that Pennzoil Ultra Supreme oil now has Moly additive as well as Boron in its Package.
I think there is a tendency to compare old time oils that may not have handled Moly as well as present day oils.
The reference above is 12 pages of light technical info and does not promote any brand of oils or products.
A look at Moly from a chemical point, reveals the benefits it has to offer as a friction reducer and some info on how it acts under various conditions of pressure and temperatures.
In my case and after extensive research, I decided to trial Moly based on a research suspicion from multiple sources and came out a winner.
As usual, anyone who finds things out, that is a success, is subject to doubts by those who have no experience in said trials leading to targeted outcome.
In my opinion based on common sense, there seem to have been a break-down in quality control at the point the Lining were sprayed in the blocks, and got out to the engine build dept and out to production line without ever discovering the Quality issue.
Nothing wrong with Plasma Spray bore application as long as they are properly applied and finished.
Being a spray bore, a dealer cannot just rebuild these blocks in shop, and so the Delima that exists over it.
Good luck.

Not going to lie, I still don't like how noisy mine is and I feel like it might've gotten a bit worse since my original post (in my head?
). Plus I've heard numerous other 5.0's in the 2018-20 timeframe that are significantly quieter than mine at idle. I have a comprehensive bumper to bumper, so I'll probably take it in somewhere in the next couple of months just to have someone smarter than me confirm everything everybody is saying here, too. But still, this thread does help give me some peace of mind - and yeah, it runs fine. Just noisy!
Maybe a little - but that could be in my head as well. If it is, it's neglible. If I come to an idle at a stop light or parked somewhere, I hear it just as much, and it's plenty warm by then.
Mine is a 2012 Gen 1 5.0L, i hear a very similar sound when at idle as well, but first thing in the morning on a cold start it's even louder. I took mine in to a shop and said they think mine rod bearing are starting to go, however there's no physical signs, like metal glitter in the oil. I'm not sure I believe the rod bearing theory, the engine only has 140K on it and has been well taken care of.

But I agree, that seems like a less likely worst case scenario in your situation.I have a comphrehensive warranty that kicks in next month. I plan to take mine in at some point just to have someone else listen to it in person and get their take. But it does run fine. It's just so noisy. I also have the off throttle rattle described here, which evidently isn't an issue (and only happens cold).
So many noises... Love the truck, though.

With only 34k miles on mine (though it's 6 years old), I sure hope it's not that in my case!

I agree lots of noises and i love mine as well. Just not used to an engine being that noisy. If the link below works, I took a vid of mine from under the truck.

Yup...sounds like a diesel sometimes...hpfp knocks and is louder sometimes.
I have same year truck, owned since new.
It knocks and ticks and such but so far after almost 6 years and 75,000 miles it still runs great!!
I also havethe off throttle rattle...had it since day 2 of ownership. Not an issue.
