Thank you Ford for the locking tailgate! (Theft attempt from Ram owner)
I was walking back to my truck with hands full of groceries, and I park quite far away where the parking lot is less busy. Saw some shady guy walk up behind my truck and try to open MY tailgate! It was locked of course, because the tailgate locks with my doors, and he immediately started walking away.
I had lots of groceries so I couldn't exactly chase him down, but I started doing a quick shuffle to my truck to offload them and go after him. By the time I got to my truck he was across the lot and got into an older white Ram 1500 with what looked to be about 6" lift and 35" tires. I was halfway between my truck and his when he got in and started driving away and the only other detail I could see was one of those Bill Murray Chive decals in his back window, and there was a second person in the truck.
I checked my dash cam and I did get a clip of his truck driving slowly past in front of mine, likely scoping out the parking lot, but it was drizzling a bit earlier, and my windshield had droplets on it, so you couldn't make out his face or his license plate.
If anyone in Edmonton sees this guy, please get his plate #! This happened at the Superstore parking lot in the west end near Stony Plain and 170th street.
Oh, and thanks Ford, for the locking tailgate

Did you have anything of value in your bed? Or do you have a bed cover? Just curious. I would think if he saw something in there he wanted, he would just reach over and grab it, unless it was something big and heavy.

I wondered that too. But with the price of tailgates, it could just be an easy way for a thief to make a lot of bucks. thiefs

I'd love to see that guy do that to my truck. I also drive around the city but not anywhere in the west end. Currently in the south. Wouldn't be hard to find a lifted Dodge Ram with chives sticker on their truck. Definitely be looking out for "BUB"

My friend's tailgate was stolen off his older model Tundra, just came in his driveway one night and took it. I think he paid about $800 to replace it. It is a theft based on opportunity, convenience and a potentially quick payoff. There's nothing worse than a truck thief...except maybe a motorcycle thief. You just don't mess with a man's bike, yeah those guys are even lower scum.

Thanks for the lookouts guys. Nice to have some other Edmonton guys here.
And no, there was nothing at all in the bed, and no cover. He clearly just wanted to take my tailgate because there's no other reason to try to open it.
