Default TFL drag races with a trailer

Another silly but entertaining video from TFL Truck. I was surprised the stock 2.7 outran a tuned 5.0. It also outran the stock 3.5, however it looks like they didn't brake torque the 3.5. Probably because they learned that doing that with an 8600 pound trailer is not a great idea.

No surprise to those of us who drive & tow 2.7 trucks daily. It's a serious over-achiever. I'm on my second 2.7 truck, and still in the "honeymoon" phase after a combined 4 years & 60+K miles. Probably the best overall powertrain I've ever driven, in regards to it's intended market/use.

It will be my truck of choice until/if something better comes along.

It was an interesting video to watch!

That said, and speaking for myself, I don't know why anyone would want to put that kind of stress on a F-150. Thankfully TFL and 5 Star tuning are willing to work through that thought experiment so I don't need to.

Well guess that got them in a tizzy. Tip of the day, Don't brake torque when towing! LOL That little engine sheared both ends! Imagine what the 3.5 would have done if it was cranked up into it's torque band like the 2.7 was.

I’m with @dalola I’m on my second 2.7 truck (16 and now my 19). Absolute beast of an engine. Sometimes I think it’s quicker than a truck really needs to be.

Interesting that the "stock" 5.0 shifts at 6250, which is beyond the 5750 red-line indicated on the dash.

And who would have ever thought that brake-torquing a turbo motor with 8K on the back would shear a driveshaft...

The 5.0 is built to rev higher than that; in the Mustang it redlines at 7,000. So Ford may have programmed it to go past redline briefly when maximum power is requested. The same way Ford programs the EB turbos to give a few seconds of overboost when maximum power is requested.

The driveshaft broke on the tuned engine. It was not designed for that much torque and it probably would hold strong on the factory tune.

Or the brake torque on the initial launch fatigued it to the point that it was going to break at some point regardless. I don't know what he was trying to accomplish with a brake torque anyway, he didn't do it with the 5.0.

There was so much wrong with this video, they might as well have not even done it.

Using trucks that have been dragged multiple times before with tunes, to drag with a trailer...
Brake torquing the 2.7 but not the 3.5...

One more Apples to Oranges for TFL.
